My self-summary
Once, as a third-grade kid, I became convinced that we ought to use the corrugated cardboard boxes lying around the school to make an airplane. And I talked eight of my classmates into helping me with my crazy idea. Alas, the "plane" didn't fly.

Times have changed. Now, as a PhD student, I think of other crazy ideas (like how students should be taught) and try talking people into them. I'm amazed when they agree. And I'm even more amazed when some of these ideas work!

I guess you could describe me as the thinking type who's very interested in people and what they think. I think I might actually be good at it-- I once guessed (rightly) that someone chose window seats on an airplane, and that they really hated hiking (Oh, here's a trick: people who like hiking also usually like sushi. Weird huh?)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm using computers to help people learn better. I spend a lot of my time thinking about my research and how to make it better.
I’m really good at
Talking to people and thinking up crazy ideas (e.g. I plan to publish my PhD thesis as a kindle ebook and make MILLIONS, ha!).

While I'm not the best at either, I think I'm good at balancing detail with being somewhat whimsical. For instance, I want my espresso to be just so, but I'm also happy to see a city between flights (I scared the kind old lady at Portland airport by asking her what I could see in the city in two hours).

Oh, I also "learned" French on the flight to Paris, and successfully offended every Frenchman I spoke with. Does that count?
The first things people usually notice about me
... that I just started talking to them?

Oh also, I apparently have great eyes. They're usually green, but they sometimes change color.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes, the comic strip) is my hero. When I grow up, I'll be just like him.

If your friends think you're a geek, but you aren't sure if it's true. (Actually, even if you're sure it's true). Bonus points if your job involves wearing a lab coat (I'm really disappointed that I'll be "doctor" someday, and I never wear a lab coat).
