My self-summary
I care about my friends and my family. I try to be kind whenever the chance occurs. I have a good eye for metaphor. I'm prone to having adventures.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in the third year of a Ph.D. program in the biological sciences, so I stay pretty busy with research. But I find time to have fun and feel fulfilled - I go bouldering at The Red Barn, I take swing dance lessons and go to the groove juice socials, I play mandolin in a band, I host breakfasts for my friends every few Sundays, I read a lot. Sometimes I take my typewriter up to the pier on Lake Ontario and write 10¢ stories for the folks walking past, and this summer I'll be in the Corn Hill festival as a typewriting performer.
I’m really good at
Storytelling. I used to work as a historical interpreter in New Mexico and I really came to love that kind of dramatic monologue. Also I think I'm a pretty good conversationalist.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Lately I've been working through all of John Irving's novels - right now I'm on A Prayer for Owen Meany. I love Kesey, Faulkner, and Fitzgerald best, and Hemingway, Thomas Hardy, and Marilynne Robinson next.

I don't have a TV but I do occasionally get my mitts on a whole series and watch it in one obsessive go that ruins a week. My favorites from those bursts of television are The Wire (especially the second season), Community, and Firefly.

Wes Anderson's probably my favorite director (although I didn't get The Life Aquatic). There was a time in my life when I tried to work through the IMDB's top 250 movies of all time, so I really have a thing for great foreign and old films. I love going to the Dryden Theater and try to go at least twice a month.

Grizzly Bear is my favorite band. They are so damn good.

The constant possibility of adventure
I spend a lot of time thinking about
That time America went to the moon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my biochem friends at Lux or The Old Toad or one of those haunts. They're good people and I can't see enough of them.
