Poets: HD, William Carlos Williams, Robert Duncan, Louise Gluck, Anne Carson, Ted Berrigan, Denise Levertov, Louis Zukofsky, Jack Gilbert.
Science Fiction and Fantasy: Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, George RR Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay, Vernor Vinge, NK Jemisin, Daniel Abraham, China Mieville.
Movies: First thing to understand is that I love black and white comedies. If Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Myrna Loy, or Barbara Stanwyck is in it, I want to see it. But I love movies generally, and I try to watch some in every genre. Animated movies like The Secret of Kells and Lilo and Stitch hold a special place in my heart. Musicals are great, and I love classic ones like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for their fun and campiness, and I like more modern ones like Romance and Cigarettes, which is campy in a rather different way.
Shows: How I Met Your Mother; Modern Family; Homeland; Dr. Who; Parks and Rec; Sherlock; House of Cards.
Music: Art Tatum; Bob Dylan; Cake; Fang Island; The Go! Team; Daft Punk; Taylor Swift is a guilty pleasure that was acquired on a summer of road trips, in which country stations were typically the only ones available. I like dance music generally.
Food: All things tasty. I love comfort food, like mac and cheese and biscuits and gravy. Asian food (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, etc) is always welcome. I have a soft spot for pho. Tongue sandwiches are the stuff of dreams (and I would welcome any information on the best Jewish delis in the area).
Board Games: Dixit, Ticket to Ride, Agricola, Villa Paletti, Thurn and Taxis.
