My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello, my name's Joel. I'm a stupidly idealistic guy who wants to better this world.

Demeanor wise, I'm normally an introvert. That is... until my buttons are pressed. Once something has my attention, I'm intense, energetic, and (dare I say) charming. Well... as charming as a dork can be, anyway.

As for what I enjoy doing, I like debating, hiking, gaming, researching, cooking, and eating copious amounts of food.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I graduated from ASU with a degree in Criminal Justice. Before starting a career, I'm taking some time to grow a bit. You know, to find myself. It's the stereotypical excuse people make to avoid taking a big leap, but fuck it. Eventually, I hope to become a detective or, even better, an FBI agent (Yeah, yeah, I know. But I dream big).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Let's see... I'm a great writer, believe it or not. I actually want to write professionally someday. Although I'm not quite sure what genre I want to focus on. I'm thinking either low fantasy or quirky non-fiction.

I'm also a pretty good hiker. Because of this, I've picked up backpacking. So far I've only traversed two locations, though, the Paria and the Grand Canyon, but I do intend to do others. On that note, you can check out a picture of me standing majestically in front of the Colorado in my photo section.

Lastly, I'm great at making nonsensical comments, which I believe to be brilliant, but are probably not as insightful as I think. For example, I once wrote an entire essay on Drywall. Yes, Drywall. Suffice it to say, it wasn't well received.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My height. I'm a shorty. I stand at a convenient 5'4". So I'm travel size. Yes.

Oh, and my eyes. They are really squinty. Like, Clint Eastwood under the hot Mexican sun squinty. It's so bad, people think I'm perpetually pissed. Rest assured, I'm not. I'm only mildly miffed.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
My favorite authors are Stephen King and David Sedaris. Sarah Vowell is pretty cool too. And before you start thinking I'm a creeper for liking the King, let me tell ya, he's more a modern fantasy writer than a horror nut. Seriously, check out 11/22/63. I guar-an-teeeee (french chef voice) you'll love it.

Movie wise, I'm less interested in them. I do have a few favorites, though. Hot Fuzz, Forrest Gump, and Dumb and Dumber never fail to put smile on my face.

Bands... uh... I love Bad Religion, The Hives, Fun, The Format, Bob Dylan... There's more but my taste in music is something I'd rather save for conversation material.

When it comes to television, I normally stick to comedies.
I constantly re-watch Arrested Development, old episodes of the Simpsons, Seinfeld, and Spielberg cartoons (Animaniacs, etc.). A non-comedy that I enjoy is Doctor Who. It's corny as hell but, by golly, it's grown on me. Oh, and Person of Interest... I kind of have a thing for anything involving Artificial Intelligence (except the movie Artificial Intelligence, ironically). I also enjoy anime.

Foods... well, just read my "six things" things.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) My family (despite its eccentricities).

2) My cats (judge not lest ye be judged).

3) My two awesome friends (who are practically family).

4) The inter-webz/computer combo. (INFORMATION!)

5) My Camelbak pack.

6) This one is a twofer. Sweet and Spicy food. I swing between these two extremes on a regular basis. For example, I'll have a sandwich full of raw jalapenos and then cookies. Lots and lots of cookies... or cake.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Space. It's huge. And.. uh... Politics and current events. Yes, those. I over think them. If you're not into conversing about such things, that's fine. But I warn you, once I come out of my shell, you'll hear a rant or two (or ten).

I also think a lot about my future. While I'm looking to enter a career in law enforcement, I sometimes wonder if it's the right path for me. Like I said earlier, when I'm not all worked up I'm pretty passive. Whatev. I'll figure things out eventually.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Reading books/articles or watching comedies. Saturday nights, however, I hang with my bestest buds. We play Smash Bros. and Mario Kart (DAMNYOUSPINYBLUESHELL!!!!!!) while listening to campy 80's Music (we're hip). That, and eat out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I hum while I eat and I prefer to sleep on the floor.

If you want juicier tidbits, you'll have to hit me up.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If you can tolerate a little awkwardness. If not, move along for your own sake (run, you fool!).

Also, you should message me if you're passionate about something. I know that sounds lame, but apathy and I don't mix.
