If You Go Away - Scott Walker
He grew up in rural south east
England, and at the age of eleven moved
to upstate New York just in time for the US bicentennial and the
KISS Love Gun/Alive II world tour. He now lives in Park Slope,
Brooklyn, New York. He once used a stack of found bar mitzvah
thank-you notes as a literary device. For two decades he hid his
roots, but now divulges them in tight, nano-doses of his art, where
beyond the adventures of a painterly and historical
surrealism lies the
activism-poetry
of critique and resistance with its deep compassion, gallows humor,
and anxious vulnerability. He once revived the unused accent on his
last name for the publication of his first poem 'Exuviae',
---"because it seemed like a funny comment on my mixed british and
cuban heritage, but I failed to realize everyone would just assume
I was a pretentious @$$&%)* ". He received his first BA in
English and
critical theory from Syracuse
University, has an unfinished photography degree from that
Nabokovian university in Ithaca, NY, which he is still paying off,
and at the age of 36 received his honors
BFA in visual art from the State University
of New York. He has lived in New York City since 2004.
This is his first ad.
For One Moment - Lee Hazlewood
I shift lucidly from fiction to
documentary in honest, intelligent,
and occasionally, eloquent ways. I am a cheerleader of the
ye-ye set, and
provoke minor scandals with my writing. I favor both intimate
naturalism and extravagant
symbolism in both my personal and
artistic lives. I think there are still ways to fuse
politics and
romance.
