I am a nice guy, easygoing, and easy to get along wi.

My Self-Summary

Hey! I'm just your average easygoing, open-minded, masculine, straight-acting kinda quiet, non-smoking, non-snobby guy, recently widowed, looking for genuine friendship, somebody to share special moments with--Sincere Single Searching for Soul Mate. I love life, movies, music, walks, books, discussions, deep thoughts, dogs, and people. I'm not religious, but am spiritual and very interested in religion of all kinds. I'm a good listener, effective teacher, accommodating lover, and a loyal, discreet friend. I'm serious, but free hearted and love to have fun enjoying life. Not into drugs, no hook-up, and avoid drama when possible. I value honesty, intelligence, creativity, and other good things.
Poltically, I'm a liberal-leaning middle of the roader. A really compatible life partner would be great, but in the meantime, lovers or just friends would be fine. No one night stands, though. I'm not looking for just sex. I'm in great health and would like to keep it that way, so safe sex is a concern. My take on the meaning of life is pretty well summed up by the Monty Python movie with the same name; it's a personal thing! So give me a try. What have we got to lose?

What I’m doing with my life

Living, of course. That's what life's all about! I'm a semi-retired part-time teacher. I love my job, but I also love to travel and to get to know people. Taking life one day at a time and none of it for granted, learning new wonderful things in every capacity. I dabble in acryllics, dabble being the best word to describe the abstract expressionism I turn out. I just got back from Morocco where I spent several nights camping in a Berber tent and riding camels.

I’m really good at

Listening, empathizing, teaching (if I do say so myself), and acryllic abstract expressionist painting (slap some paint on the canvas and have fun). I love meeting new people and finding out about them.

The first things people usually notice about me

The twinkle in my blue eyes and my warm smile. I'm friendly, but a little shy and quiet at first. But I warm up quickly with a little encouragement. And I get really hot with a lot of encouragement!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: I enjoy sci-fi (yes, I'm a Trekkie, but not a fanatic), action/advenure movies and drama. Milk, Brokeback Mountain, Philadelphia (did I mention I'm gay), Slumdog Millionaire, Requiem for a Dream, Running WIth Scissors, Magnolia, The Irony of Fate.

Music: Love classical and ethnic music: Bach, Mozart and Shostakovich in the privacy of my bedroom; Puccini and Rachmaninoff, classic rock, R&B, and jazz for makeout music. I also like celtic, klezmer, and balkan.
Books: I'm an avid reader of (mostly non-fiction) books about philosophy, science, history and religion. I like the writings of Marcus Borg and Bishop Spong; books on science, cosmology and evoution by Christian writers like Kenneth Miller, Francis Collins and Paul Davies, and even atheist authors like Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, and Hitchens. I'm a particular fan of Viktor Frankl, the Austrian shrink and concentration camp survivor, who believed that the quest for meaning, however we define it ourselves, is what life's all about.

Food: I like Thai, Chinese and Mexican.

The six things I could never do without

My kids, friends, freedom, books, music, love.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life and people. And of course that, too!

On a typical Friday night I am

Working out at the gym and (later) enjoying dinner and a movie, preferably with someone hot!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a wayfaring stranger in a strange land. The stork dropped me in the wrong part of the coutry. All my close matches are on the west and east coasts.

You should message me if

You want a relationship that goes beyond just sex, just want to be friends, or just communicate. I'm equal opportunity; I don't discriminate against any humanoid life forms, and will consider others, as well, as long as they don't have scales and tentacles. Don't hold back. I've never bitten anybody yet, only nibbled a little! So try me. You might like me.
