My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am an upbeat, curious person who tries to pack 24 hours of living into every day -- but has yet to defeat his arch nemesis, the need for sleep. Ironically I am very good at sleeping, could have gone pro if I'd tried...

I have never liked conforming. I question most everything that is a societal norm, not to be difficult but to get a better understanding of why people do what they do.

I have a big circle of friends and I get a kick out of being the social glue who introduces people that become friends of each other... And sometimes more. Although I don't have any children, I'm thrilled by the five cute kids who are on the planet because I had the chance to introduce their parents.

While I don't have the eye-hand coordination for some sports, I have been a competitive runner and care about fitness and enjoy the outdoors. I'm also a car nut, and enjoy the chance to channel other eras that playing with vintage cars provides.

I also love music and jump at the chance to see a great live act.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have had a rewarding professional life in nonprofit groups, focusing on progressive transportation issues (bike/ped/public transit advocacy) and disability issues. I have done a lot of work in communications and government affairs. I started my dream job heading a small nonprofit group a couple of months ago.

I've been seeing a highly compatible lass ("Chatterhatter" on OKC) since June. We're open to being open and enjoy meeting other non-traditional types, including people who like to talk about whether polyamory is a fad or an element of the Age of Aquarius.

In my "free time," I've been building an intentional arts community in Alexandria with 4 other creatively-minded people. It's a long-term project that has been really taking off the past two years.

I've dabbled in oil painting but my main artistic output lately is as a songwriter. I write folk-rock tunes that I enjoy sharing at open mics.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening, empathizing, and brainstorming. I like helping solve problems and cutting challenges down to size, especially by thinking outside the box. I've appreciated having the opportunity to coach friends through their searches for jobs, cars and romance.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm enthusiastic, passionate, and driven. Sometimes I have ironic facial hair or wear eccentric clothes. You can attribute that on my having stumbled into the Burning Man arts community six years ago. (I have four treks to the Black Rock Desert under my belt).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
The Great Gatsby, most anything by John Irving (bears!); Alice's Restaurant, The Graduate; Fawlty Towers, Californication; Cat Empire, Ani DiFranco; chicken parmagiana, cherry Starbursts.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Art, music, butterscotch pudding, friends, beaches, optimism.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The next song I will write.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Up til dawn. I like to make the most of a night. Whether talking about interesting events and philosophies with old or new friends in the hot tub, or jumping on a trampoline, or hiking by moonlight, or scrambling to finish an art or car project that I swore could be done by midnight...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I lean to the left. And I like puns. When it asked for the most "private" thing, I just couldn't resist.

You are intrigued -- and you are intriguing! I enjoy connecting with others who are interested in Burning Man, intentional communities, and discussing polyamory and non-traditional relationships. Oh, and if you want to learn to drive stick shift, I'm a patient instructor. (I believe this is a critical life skill. What if you're the only sober person at a party and someone has to go the the hospital and the only car with gas has a manual transmission?)
