My self-summary
Hi! I'm Brian. I'm a romantic, wear my heart on my sleeve kind of guy; I'm honest, loyal, and true to a fault. I love the outdoors. I'm a bit of a science geek. I'm adventurous, have an insatiable curiosity, and love travelling and experiencing new things; whether it's a new place, a movie, or a new type of wine, count me in :)

I'm a bit of a goofball, ok, quite the goofball, lol; but an endearing one and I know how to be serious when the moment calls for it. I'm just as at home in a suit and tie as I am in a bathing suit. I love Music: listening, performing, recording. Museums. A long drive down a winding country road on a sunny day. The occasional night out at a bar or club. I've been known to do random research projects, just because, haha. I like to soak up all the great things in the world around me and take one day at a time. I love being out in nature, sports, and the open water. I tend to notice cheesy things, like starlight reflected in a window or the pale chill of the moon on frozen grass. I love sunsets and sunrises; and on a clear warm night, I think I could stare at the stars forever. I love attempting to capture the beauty of the world and share it as I perceive it, through photography, drawing, and music.

I'm passionate about helping people, especially those that I love, my friends, and my family; about my career. I'm passionate about science and the environment and have to admit that I'm a little bit of a nerd about it, haha. A friend recently told me that I approach my science like an art form, as a creative endeavor, I love that observation and just had to include it here 'cause it's so true.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as a hydrogeologist/novel technology guru for a consulting firm over in Hunt Valley, MD. It's a challenging job combining everything from engineering to chemistry and I get to make a real difference in cleaning up the environment and protecting people's health.

I think I have more hobbies than I have space here, lol, suffice it to say on any given day you might find me out in the woods hiking or camping, working on my house, chillin with some tea and a good book, playing with my adorable black lab pup, out on the boat, autocrossing, watching a movie, just driving around exploring, doing some random research just because, rescuing the neighbor's cat, playing soccer or tennis or some other silly lawn sport, entertaining on the porch with some friends along with some good beer, music, and BBQ, or maybe some crazy combination of those things; but I wouldn't want to spoil all the fun; just ask if you want to know more ;)
I’m really good at
Using too many smiley faces in txt messages; sciency things; helping others; making my friends laugh; laughing at myself; listening; saxophone; autoX; Some sports: Soccer, tennis, ping pong, bowling (if that counts, lol); and I've more recently become very handy as I've been working on restoring this crazy 1800s farm house in Forest Hill :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I know it's cheesy.. but my smile, bright blue eyes, and that I genuinely care. I'm always interested in learning or experiencing something new and I think that comes across from the very first moment I meet someone new.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Too many to list here, but I tend towards the hard sci-fi genre which are novels written about relatively normal people or places with some sort of extraordinary science filled twist. Some of my favorite authors include Poul Anderson (Harvest of Stars), Stephen Baxter (Time's Eye), and Robert Wilson (Spin).

Movies: I really like movies of all types but my favorites are the epics with a twist of romance like Gladiator, Star Wars, and Troy. I also like some movies for their cinematography such as 300, The Fountain, and Sin City and you have to love the modern comedy classics like Spaceballs, Office Space, Princess Bride, and Dodgeball :)

TV Shows: I don't watch too much TV but when I do I tend towards the nerdy side with some Star Trek (TNG), Battlestar Gallactica, and Firefly (I still don't get why they cancelled that show!), or on the comedic side I really like shows like How I Met Your Mother and King of Queens.

Music: I'm open to and listen to just about anything as long as it actually qualifies as music, lol. A few of my favorites include DMB, Coltrane, Keane, Muse, Band of Horses, Metallica, Lynard Skynard, and Dispatch.

Food: I like just about everything and am happy to try new things from Indian to Italian to Tapas; I'm game if you are. I am a bit of a carnivore though, I love a good steak and potatoes meal. Bonus points if you like pizza or crabs and double bonus points if you love both, especially with old bay! (Not pizza with old bay though, that's just silly! or is it?!?! :o)
The six things I could never do without
Water (Ex Aqua Veritas! I am a hydrogeologist after all, haha)
My family and friends, including my puppy :)
Music
Nature and the Outdoors
Playing Sports and staying active
Fun, adventure, and exploring, gotta keep things interesting!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything, lol. Can an online profile really express who I am? Seriously, how did another sock disappear? Where are those keys!? I think this whole profile thing comes across waayyy more serious than I am in real life, darn you technical writing skills!! hahaha
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't really have a typical Friday.. but often I might be found chillin with friends at happy hour, getting the house ready for company over the weekend, travelling to some weekend destination, getting the boat ready (Weather permitting), or just relaxing with a good movie or book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once walked into a half open door so hard I had to go to the hospital (I know!); anything more than that will have to wait till we know each other a bit better ;)
