I am inquisitive, patient, and a friend of nature.

My Self-Summary

I am a Jack-of-Trades and closet philosopher, of the Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance sort. I do ride motorcycles though I wouldn't consider myself a 'biker'. If I have the chance to help a friend I'll jump right in with both feet and stay until the job is done. I love my wife, my family and my friends, and I found that the more I give the more I get. The only problem is that most of my friends have dispersed themselves across this big old country, and I miss getting out and doing fun stuff. I suppose that I would call myself a reluctant leader. The guy that will volunteer for a job, group, task, etc. because most everyone else is either apathetic or more self centered and busy with 'enough' of their own 'stuff'. I do not expect people to pay me back, though if the occasion arises I would always appreciate a helping hand too.

It is about reciprocity.

Recently, the fact that I have a certain amount of responsibility on my shoulders, being a soldier in the U.S. Army, and a faithful husband of 10 plus years, has limited me from making new friends with common interests. (Sept '08)Now to add to the story I have had to go, "at the needs of the Army" to another part of the country. (There is a longer story, but I won't bother you here.) I now use my college degree in Geography, Analyzing Topography, (Making Maps) out in the western tip of Texas and southern New Mexico.

What I’m doing with my life

I am working a lot, in a place 1800+ miles away from my family, and am trying to take a little time for myself. That is to say I have had a lot on my plate, a new job, new apartment, moving, adapting to added responsibilities, and still finding time to get out have a little fun. I came to okCupid with the hope that I'd come to a new town and might meet some cool new people (that I don't work with).
Recently, I have been looking at going back to school to either get my Master's Degree or take classes to be able to apply for medical school...

I’m really good at

- seeing a different angle to nearly any situation, perspective, and realizing the potential of other people. - I can honestly tell you that YOU are a lot better at some thing than you realize. - I enjoy a challenge.

The first things people usually notice about me

The fact that I am 6'3" with glasses and curly hair. Oh yeah, the ears stick out, many notice them too.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

There are so many books, movies, and music that I enjoy. (And since I kinda copped out originally, I will try to add more stuff as it come to me...)
Music: Short of earsplitting noise and intentionally provocative and profane music I will give anything a listen. Obscure, The Soft Boys, Robin Hitchcock (with and w/o the Egyptians), AfroCelt Sound System, BR549, Los Straightjackets, Laurie Anderson, Michael Hedges and more well known bands The Foo Fighters, many of "The" bands, Beatles, Who, Kinks, Clash, The (as in The THe) and too many others to even consider filling this page with... In college I was lucky enough to work at a multi-format radio station, and We played Jazz and classical and rock and 'progressive' at the time (now 'indie'), so i was exposed to a lot and have to agree that there is just too much good music out to ever own or hear it all. One could spend a lifetime.
Food: Mostly vegetarian, though a modicum of seafood does make its way into my diet, can come from any corner of the globe. I love spices, from the spicy (just short of self inflicted torture.) Indian, Afghani, Ethiopian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and so much in-between it all works for me. Comfort foods from any culture's kitchen will do just that.

The six things I could never do without

My sanity, My motorcycles (and teaching motorcycle safety), My love of nature, kind words from a friend, a mission or purpose, and of course Good food.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The thought that I can make a difference in the world without having to wear myself out working 60+ hours a week or . . .

or "Nothing" as I blank my mind take deep breaths and try to relax.

On a typical Friday night I am

Making dinner at home and depressurizing from the week.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am an "outgoing shy person."

(Some have asked me to explain this, and what I mean to say is that I am naturally shy and realize that, without the help of alcohol or any other substance, I can 'decide' to be outgoing, it just takes much more energy to sustain the higher energy state than does the near resting state of shyness.)

You should message me if

- You don't mind a guy that can be both silly and serious, and still young at heart.

- You'd like to have an interesting conversation, talk about anything...

- or say little to nothing and just go drop a canoe in a body of water, go to an interesting movie/film, or go for a hike, walk, run, or bicycle around for the fun of it.

- You'd like a mostly harmless pen pal.
