My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, I've traveled all around the world and seen amazing and beautiful places, but not one of them could compare to home (Scotland came close). I recently moved from Seattle up to the Bellingham area in order to get that much closer to the Cascades. I'm an avid hiker and love camping, canoeing, and generally being outdoors with my dogs. Some days I just like to hop in my Jeep, put on some good music, and drive through the forest, taking in all the sights.

When I'm not out enjoying all of the natural beauty of Washington, I'm usually inside working on one of my many hobbies -- some people's hobby is collecting stamps, mine is collecting new hobbies. I'm constantly making things, learning new skills, and trying new things. Carpentry, sculpting, metal-working, painting, casting, leathercrafts, you name it and I probably have dabbled in at some point. My real passion is for writing, and I'm currently working on my first novel for publication.

I'd like to say that I'm a very intellectual person, but that's horribly pretentious, so instead I'll just say I enjoy big ideas and thinking deep thoughts, with a side order of stoned navel-gazing. I love playing devil's advocate and making steaks from sacred cows, and I derive far too much pleasure from challenging people's assumptions and dogmas.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm at a place where I have a lot of financial independence and the opportunity to pursue my own dreams, and so that's what I'm doing. Enjoying life, working on the novel I always wanted to write, and spending my time doing what I want to do. Now I'm just looking for the right person to spend that time with.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Name dropping obscure philosophers, knowing useless facts, and having a relevant anecdote. Though a good friend of mine once said the best thing about me is that I always know why I believe the things I believe and can explain my position, which doesn't seem like it should be a big thing, but so often is.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It's probably the silver in my hair, but I don't think most people really notice me until I start talking. I'm a firm believer that if you're going to say something to someone else, it should be worth their time to hear it, so I try to be witty, entertaining, or at least helpfully informative. People notice and appreciate it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I mostly read non-fiction as research, sometimes for fun. I'm especially interested in psychology, religious and art histories, gender studies, ethics, evolutionary science, genetics, that sort of thing. I also love stuff about weird cults, crazy conspiracy theories, and X-Files kind of stuff. When I manage to fit in a fiction novel, I usually read something purely for fun. My guilty pleasures are alternate history, gritty low fantasy, and military sci-fi.

I'm an huge movie buff, and love all kinds of movies, from obscure foreign dramas to Hollywood blockbusters. My favorite directors are David Lynch, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Paul Verhoeven, John Waters, and Peter Greenway. My favorite films are Blue Velvet, Amelie, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, and Flesh + Blood. I'm also crazy for Marvel's superheo movies.

My favorite TV shows are apparently Daily Show, Colbert Report, and @Midnight...basically I watch Comedy Central late at night before bed is what I'm saying. I listen a very wide range of music, from Fiona Apple to ZZ Top. My favorite bands are the weird, the cheesy, and the dark. Joy Division, Tool, Dead Kennedys, and King Missile are probably my favorite bands. My iPod is very eclectic.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My dogs, my Jeep, good boots, my laptop, the national forest system, and my passport.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My novel, the world, the characters, etc. Don't ask me about it, because I will actually tell you about it in laborious detail. I also spend a lot of time just sort of pondering the meaning of it all.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Kicking back in my recliner, putting on some music, smoking a bowl, and writing -- or, if inspiration fails, working on a project, watching a movie, etc. What I'd like to be doing on a Friday night is going out to catch a film, a concert, a book reading, just a sunset -- things best enjoyed with good company.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
When I was eleven I read a Stephen King short story in which a character is killed when he improperly jump starts a battery and it explodes. To this day I still get ridiculously nervous whenever anyone asks me for a jump.

If you find the significance of Kim Kardashian as a signifier of the empty simulacra of itself that celebrity has become more interesting than anything about Kim Kardashian's life or opinions on anything. If you understood all of that last sentence.

If you're open-minded, intellectually curious, and positive about life. If questions you don't know the answer to excite you, and you find debating ideas clarifying.

If a weekend of being damp, cold, surrounded by bugs and wild animals and eating rehydrated food while sleeping like a hobo sounds awesome to you.

If you're not done growing up, and you never will be. I think we might have something important in common.
