I am nerdy, perky, and snarky.

My Self-Summary

I love adventures large and small. I like to spend my time seeing things I haven't seen before - a new country, a new building, a new play or whatever sparks my imagination.

I am involved in community and professional organizations. I'm liberal on social issues but more conservative on fiscal issues. I think bookstores are the most magical places in the world. I watch more tv than I should. I'm usually carrying copies of both the Economist and US
Weekly. I hate wearing shoes at work but I love getting dressed up for fun.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a policy wonk, I get all fired up about issues that put most people to sleep. I get really excited when I am able to explain to someone why tax policy or community development strategies really are important to everyone. I realize everyday how lucky I am that I get to spend my days doing something that fascinates and challenges me.

I’m really good at

Tracking down information and solving problems. I love unraveling mysteries. I have an inexplicable gift for plumbing.

The first things people usually notice about me

a bewildering combination of nerdiness and perkiness.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I read everything. I don't stick to a specific genre - I think books are like food - sometime I want a sensible salad, other times a complex stew, and sometimes I really just want Doritos. I love books that explain how something works - garbage, sushi, rats, first impressions etc. I devour travel writing. There are some books that I do find myself reading over and over - Ender's Game, Exodus, and Midsummer Night's Dream.

I eat everything (almost). As a child I was very unadventurous (grilled cheese and vegetable soup everyday!) but now I love to explore. Mexican and a good cheese tray make me very happy.

I'm lukewarm on music and movies in general. Actually, if someone's taste in music is important to you, I'm probably not your gal. Even I think my favorite music is a bit appalling.

The six things I could never do without

Books, cheese, my passport, obscure cable channels that play sports that you usually only see in the Olympics, laughing, and more books.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to make my city a better place. Sometimes my ideas are practical and serious, other times I am a little more whimisical - I'd love to use goats to maintain open space.

When I'm not doing that, I'm dreaming about what part of the planet I want to explore next.

On a typical Friday night I am

A bit exhausted from the week and I can be found catching up with close friends over pizza and a beer, unless I am headed out of town for a weekend adventure.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've been known to watch Star Trek.

You should message me if

You are the type of person that is game for a last minute trip to a random location. If you have a passion for something. If you are baffled by NASCAR and can't figure out the appeal of living in the suburbs.
