My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I used to be there.
Now I'm here.

I grew up in the mountains of Colorado and the big sky, high desert of New Mexico and learned to love wildness in all things. Oddly, I've found myself for the past 8 years in a city which inspires and humbles me much like the wilderness from whence I came.
A certain sector of my friends and family can't believe I'm here (these people are driving my Subaru and skinning up the backcountry on my skis and riding my almost-vintage steel frame road bike while I can not) and yet another sector (the goofy late night BK intelligentsia that keeps me paying such high rent) can't imagine me outside of the city.
I seek it out -- that wildness -- not in careless abandon, but in the everyday. I like the unusual. The quirky. Little moments of the sacred in a good cup of coffee or the odd Latin beat in the East Village. I get it where I can find it.

I used to find it there.
Now I find it here.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Besides trying to be a decent, happy person?

I work for a radio station by day and teach Pilates and yoga and various other body modalities by night in order to fuel myself by writing. The configuration of time spent in the office, on the mat, and on the page changes from gig to gig. Lately I've been sitting at my cubicle more than I'd like, researching surf-camps.

I am doing this with my life: WORDS and BODIES.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Parallel parking.

I've been on a non-fiction kick (both as reader and writer) for years...E.B. White, Annie Dillard, Umberto Eco, Scott Russel Sanders...also a big fan of Jonathan Letham, Marquez, Woolf, Raymond Carver, Milton (for those rainy Saturdays), Robert Penn Warren, Oliver Sacks, Kingsolver. I still believe in poetry.

I just bought a turntable and have started spending hours flipping through old records in neighborhoods I'd previously never heard of. I'm a sucker for Americana twang (Bill Monroe, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Ryan Adams, Johnny Cash), 60s Surf music (Dick Dale, Surfaris, Chantays, Ronnie and the Daytonas), and whatever surprises I find on spotify by way of my penchant for Radiohead, Augustus Pablo, Jose Gonzales, Beatles... Live music is my downfall/upgrade. Thankfully many of my friends are heady jazz musicians so I get a regular dose of that and working at a radio station comes with a soundtrack. Without music I'd be insane.

Re food, I must admit I am an eat-to-liver, not a live-to-eater but I do love to cook when I have someone or something to cook for. I love baking bread. And stews. And epic brunches. Things that take a long time to make, and even longer to eat.

My mom is a film critic so I think of movie theatres a chapels of sorts...I can hit restart on the Human Condition with a bag of popcorn and a tasty trailer.
Film I love: Out of Africa, Crash, Being There, The Triplets of Belville, The Sting, Strangers on a Train, Life is Beautiful, Waking Life, Amelie, B'fast at Tiffany's, Ben Hur...
Movies I love: Real Genius, Fletch, Major League, Waiting for Guffman (and the others), anything BOURNE, Mr. Mom, Freaky Friday, The Double McGuffin, Strange Brew...
***i have never seen Casablanca
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Something to write with/on
a bicycle
A sense of humor (provided this is a THING)
music to play (guitar) or listen to (radio or other mechanism)
(the promise of) company
some kind of nut butter
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Human Anatomy.
Environmental policy and the possibility of global solutions to global problems and personal solutions to personal problems.
If it's too late to go to medical school.
The rhyme scheme of a sestina.
I also think about the mountains. A lot. Skiing in them. Running in them. Taking pictures of them...
Although (she looks around her to make sure no family members are close) I have discovered the ocean.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Enjoying The Great, Deserv-ed Lounge.
Live music is always a good bet. Teaching a class. Watching/listening to someone do something amazing -- a perk of living in this city.
Stuck in traffic getting out of this city.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am scared (VERY) of the dark.

Also I've started to hoard free samples, especially fancy face lotions and tiny sewing kits. Also packets of Raw Sugar. And pens from doctors offices. And anything I can stab with a toothpick at Whole Foods.

... you, too, are looking for some sort of spark beyond a pal for ping pong and surf documentaries. Though I enjoy those activities.
Also if you love love love this city but need to leave it from time to time.
Also if you're not afraid to get dirty and explore.
