My Self-Summary

Hello!
As the heading indicates, I'm a 23 year old single male with a profile on OkCupid. This means a number of things:
-I'm looking for friends
-I'm looking for people to hang out and do stuff with
-I'm looking for romance.
And while this is my first time actively seeking such things through the internet, it would not be the first time I have found it. It will be the second. :P

I enjoy doing all sorts of things, including things I can be bothered to do. On my own, I enjoy music, martial arts, fitness, and sciences. For a little more detail there, I play bass and classical guitar, I've practiced in Aikido and the Bujinkan (however I've postponed it to focus on school), and I am currently studying for my BS in Mechanical Engineering. I enjoy the combination of martial arts and Mech. Engineering. As dorky as it sounds, I feel like I'm getting to practice and apply things I learn. I'll also admit I'm a sucker for video games, but only for ones that you can pick up as easily as they can be put down.

I like water, and being in water. I like swimming whenever I can get the chance, there's a very liberating feeling about it. Swimming in the ocean however, while fun, always feels...slightly unsettling. Maybe it's from being stung by jellyfish, maybe it's from knowing it's not my domain, or maybe it's just from staring down into the abyss, but there's something weird about it. However when I get the chance to, my love of surfing overrides that awkward feeling. I also like snowboarding, it's like surfing, but on snow.

So, less about what I like and more about what I'm like.
Insults of any variety don't phase me, unless they are said by somebody I respect. I like having the opportunity to forge ahead and put my best foot forward in a situation that has me feeling anxious or doubtful. I listen to people older than myself knowing they may have lived two or more of my life-times. However I also realize that some people may be full of crap all their lives. I think the world (and existence for that matter) is altogether beautiful, confusing, scary, and mysterious. Human beings doubly so. At my deepest I am insatiable, but I carry myself in a humble manner. I am refined when I need to be, and otherwise care-free. I am so damn patient. No flavor (and I mean it) is so sensuous as that of a Strawberry.

That reminds me of a small story I can share.
One time I while camping with my friends we opened up some home made mead, and plunged into several bags of strawberries. A little buzz, a nice breeze, and plenty of berries. I took great satisfaction in taking strawberries one at a time, and eating them as slowly as I could restrain myself to. I enjoy relishing moments such as those.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently a full-time student at CSUS.

Since some recent events the last summer, I've lost my job working retail and have had to take up residency with my father. While he says he does not mind, for the sake of my schoolwork and wallet, I am still trying to find work again so I can get back out some place.

I’m really good at

Playing guitar
Video Games
Balancing (in all senses of the word)
Tumbling
Eating!
Getting work done ahead of time. (A rarity, but nice when it happens)
Getting work done at the last minute
Making analogies
Swimming...I really love doing it when I get the chance. It frees/centers me.
Snowboarding
Surfing
Not so much with skating
Beating on a Dumbek/Jimbe
Motivating others
Empathizing
Handling Animals (I trust reptiles/insects the least though)
Singing in the shower

The first things people usually notice about me

-My height
-My eyes
-My knack for playing guitar

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books
Honestly I never did a whole lot of reading as a hobby...but I'm not opposed to it. Most of what I've read is what was mandated by academics, such as:
-A Tale of Two Cities
-The Sun Also Rises
-Huckleberry Finn
-The Giver
-The Grapes of Wrath
-A Raisin in the Sun
Here are some other things I've read though:
The Conscious Universe, Hitch Hiker's Guide to The Galaxy, Book of Five Rings, Iaido, Entangled Minds, Deep Survival, The End of Eternity, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Stiff, The Sandman, The Hot Zone

But y'know, if you have a good book that might interest me I'd be willing to check it out.

Movies
I like zombie flicks a lot, they're always amusing. But as far as quality goes, I like movies such as:
Empire of the Sun, Sin City, Ong Bak, Kung-Fu Hustle, The Professional, Full Metal Jacket, Seven, Saw, Apocalypse Now, Dawn of the Dead, A Stranger of Mine [Japanese], Harold & Kumar go to White Castle, Animal House, Space Balls, Ghost Busters, James Bond, Three Kings, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Drunken Master 2, Super Cop, Rumble in the Bronx, Operation Condor (can't go wrong with Jackie Chan!), Pan's Labrynth

Music
More or less I listen to all kinds of genres. However I listen to country music the least, with rap/hip-hop following that. For the most part I like alt/progressive rock, funk, and jazz.

Here are some artists I enjoy listening to:
Tower of Power, Tool, Herbie Hancock, Bach, Bob Marley, The Meters, Charlie Parker, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, Metallica, Paul Chambers, Jaco Pastorius, Weird Al Yankovic, Jimmy Eat World, Pat Martino, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, James Jamerson, Eric Clapton, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Finch, Minibosses, Foo Fighters...a fairly varied selection I'd say. I've also been enjoying John Legend a lot recently...I'd kill to have a singing voice like that!

Food
I'm not very big on tomatoes, pickles, or (for the most part) veggies that are similar to either of those (such as zucchini). Olives...kind of indifferent about...but I like peppers, mushrooms, onion, and garlic.

Beyond that, I enjoy all kinds of foods as well; American, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Indian, Ethiopan. That's one thing I love about Sacramento's diversity: you can get food from almost anywhere in the world here!
And with that, I think some time I'd like to try some oriental food, like Pakistani or Turkish stuff.

The six things I could never do without

-Friends
-Family
-Music
-Intimacy
-A confidant
-Peace of Mind

I spend a lot of time thinking about

-Music; playing it, composing it, listening to it

-The future of technology; communication, robotics, medical sciences

-School

-Nature; not in a great outdoors sense, but how everything is energy trying to reach equilibrium.

On a typical Friday night I am

These days, home alone studying and doing homework.
I live further from my central group of friends than I used to, and no work means no excessive driving. So, most of my focus has gone to school.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'll answer any question you ask.
I'm just that candid.

You should message me if

No "If"s, you should message me!
Unless you have agoraphobia, then I unsterstand entirely. :P
