My self-summary
Love. Life. Beauty. Power. Passion. Joy. These are the things that we're fighting for. They are real, they are possible. This is what life is about. Everything else is just stuff to wade through to get the good stuff. Sometimes--usually--there's a lot of stuff to wade through; so much, perhaps, that we forget that there's anything else. Well, that's what we have each other for: to remind us, to encourage us, to fight for us, and, most of all, to help us find answers. Because that's what it's all about.

Well, you can already tell some things about me. I like to write long sentences, for one thing. I'm very philosophical, for another. I'm a truth seeker, a searcher for beauty. I am the man with light in his eyes and fire in his heart.

It's odd being me. Especially here. I mean, I'm super-cool, right? (Well, with a particular geek-chic definition of "cool," anyway) But I can't seem to write a decent profile to save my life. And OKCupid seems to match me most often to young, pagan, socialist, bi women. I wonder what that says about me.

Alright, time for *sigh* the label list.

I am: libertarian, atheist, and a college student. I'm a gamer--more tabletop than computer--and a roleplayer, not just in the sense that I play tabletop and computer roleplaying games, but that I actually like to roleplay in them. What a thought. The in-bed (or out-of-bed, for that matter) version applies too, tho', sadly, it's been a while since I've done that.

I am not: judgemental, dogmatic, or reactionary. So if some of the above labels turn you off--well, all I can say is that just because you are not those things doesn't mean that I'll be put off. Unless you are judgemental, dogmatic, or reactionary.

Current quote: "People should not fear their government. Government should fear the people." --V for Vendetta, paraphrased from Thomas Jefferson

I am intense, beautiful, and brilliant
What I’m doing with my life
Studying. Philosophy, economics, politics, anthropology, anything to help me understand who we are and what we do--and why. Trying to keep my life together, as it seems I have 'way too much of it. Trying to find "like-minded companions" as Alanis says, to help each other on this journey.
I’m really good at
Thinking. Talking. Writing, tho' I don't do much of it. Playing, walking, loving, living. Well, maybe not so much on the "living" part; I'm working on it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm gregarious. I'm often a bit too loud. I'm the sort of person who knows what "gregarious" means. I'm bright--sometimes too much so for my own good, as sometimes the best thing is to just shut up and go along without questioning things so damned much. But I can't help it. I'm fidgety. It's hard to sit or stand still for long. I usually know what I'm talking about, but occasionally make an idiot of myself by misunderstanding what's going on.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Stranger in a Strange Land. Prelude to Foundation. Atlas Shrugged. Lord of the Rings. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Desert Solitare. A Swiftly Tilting Planet. Speaker for the Dead. The Harry Potter series. Nearly everything by Heinlein, Asimov, and (omg I almost forgot) Card. Need to plug him up there...good.

Movies: American Beauty. Good Will Hunting. Dead Poets Society. The Beach (I love this movie. Not because it's so great; all the ones preceding it in this list are better. But because it's a foolproof binary indicator. If you liked this movie, if you get it, you're one of the awesome people. If you hated it or were left cold, you're--everybody else)). Strange Days. Enemy of the State. Hackers. I can't believe I forgot Real Genius. Probably other awesome movies I've forgotten for now, but that's a start.

Music: Seal. Alanis Morissette. Howard Jones. Suzanne Vega. Edie Brickell. Billy Joel. Mr. Mister (Yes, Mr. Mister. Get over it). Amy Grant. Tracy Chapman. John Mayer. Metallica. I've heard some wonderful stuff from Coldplay and Evanescence, but I'm not ready to commit to them as "favorites" yet. (I love iTunes; I can just pull up my top rated songs and remember all my favorite artists! Now I just need to do the same with Delicious Library for my books and movies.) Do you notice a pattern here? These are all (well, perhaps excepting Mr. Mister) artists that put the words first, and let the music follow. Their songs are about something. Yes, even Metallica. Especially Metallica.

Foods: Sorry, I don't get especially passionate about food. Perhaps because I'm too poor to afford really good food on a regular basis. But I do like: Wine (especially Canyon Road Cabernet), ice cream, chicken cordon bleu, Monte Cristos (if you've never had one, going on a date with me will be a rewarding experience), and fish. Just about any kind of seafood will do me.
The six things I could never do without
1. Books.

2. Something to write with and on.

3. My music.

4. Time to myself.

5. Sufficient food, water, clothing, warmth and shelter (hey, I was in the military; these are not guarantees).

6. The sun.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Just kill the "about" part. I spend a lot of time thinking. Period. Probably too much, by some measures. But lately the primary subjects have been economics (I know, I know, boooring. But really, it's not. At least not the bits I'm thinking about. Trust me.), political theory, philosophy of love (in kind of a general, non-technical sense), and basically how we can get along together on this crazy planet. orsonscottcard
On a typical Friday night I am
Going to Karaoke with my girlfriend. Or hanging out with her in some other way. Or, occasionally, playing D&D with my gaming group (tho' that's usually Saturday nights...want to join?). Or perhaps playing Lord of the Rings Online.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm polyamorous. In fact, I've got a whole theory I'm trying to work out on how, with the proper people, polyamorous relationships are the ideal. But figuring out exactly how it will work is, as always, a bitch. Anyone want to help me?
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–40
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating, long-distance penpals, casual sex
You should message me if
You love life, and are looking for someone to share a piece of it with--informally or formally, romantically or otherwise.

You are smart, and think that all this stuff I've been talking about sounds interesting, and like to talk about thoughts and ideas.

You just feel like it. I'm bored.
