I am friendly, artistic, and optimistic.

My Self-Summary

My nickname came from my housemate who misheard me when I told him my delicious fudge was easy to make- the cookbook was for kids and you cook it in a microwave. "Four kids in a microwave?" he asked. And thus Cannibal Kate was born. This name now seems to precede me wherever I go.

As you can tell from this already, I am a bit of a baker. My specialty is fudge, but I also make delicious lemon biscuits. Some have suggested I try to seduce men with my cooking but I never seem to have the time...

I have a lot of fun and interesting friends. In fact my favorite thing to do is hang out with my friends and have long conversations about all kinds of (occasionally geeky) stuff, especially at one of or house parties. At a recent one we discussed the US election and the last chapter of the Harry Potter series within moments of each other.

I am a bit of a procrastinator, and rather resistant to change. This didn't stop me from going on a round the world trip by myself last year, but it does mean I have had the same job for the last three years in a rather high turn over industry (retail).

What I’m doing with my life

I am a writer, and I truly expect to do something with that one of these days. I just wish everything could just come of of my head onto paper without any effort on my part. Unfortunatly, I am surrounded by incredibly creative people who just generally make me feel lazy. You would think that would encourage me more, but no. I am stubborn like that.

I am currently working (not very successfully) on my first novel, a teen coming of age/ romance. I also write short stories (mostly based around the TV series CSI New York for some reason...) In the meantime I'm about to start studying politics at Uni. It's my third degree, but I didn't actually finish the second one, so I am not sure if that counts.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I eat sushi a lot, but it's the anglisised version so I don't know if it actually counts as Japanese food. I doubt it. I eat meat, but not a lot of it- if I have an option for dinner I will generally go for the one with lots of vegetables, if not entirely vegetarian.

I love chocolate, but I think it gives me heartburn. Oh the dilemma!

Recent movies I have liked included Frost/Nixon, Goodnight and Good Luck (hey, recent as in 5 years okay?), Hot Fuzz, Love Actually, Oceans 11 and, surprisingly enough, Twilight. But then, I hear that last one is much better than the book.

I listen to the pop charts and like most of that music. Especially the hip hop/ dance tracks with a nice beat and lovely bass line. Then again, I also like Vivaldi's Four Seasons (which I am determined to learn on violin one of these days) and all of that old big band music (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, ect).

My favorite author is Elizabeth Gaskell, who was writing love stores against the backdrop of social change in the 1850's. Somehow she managed to write a book (North and South) that speaks to me across 150 years.

I also own almost every single Nora Roberts book I can get my hands on. She writes romance novels but they always have a strong subplot, usually some sort of crime drama, family history or good vs evil.

Other significant authors in my collection include Jeffery Deaver (brilliant crime author), Bill Bryson (mainly travel, with one truly lovely book entitled A Short History of Nearly Everything), and Terry Pratchett (if you don't know who he is... well, you should.)

The six things I could never do without

1. Sleep and sleeping in.

While I can get by on less sleep than is advisable, I just love sleep, and sleeping in on my days off. Especially on a day like today, when it's raining outside and I can snuggle in and forget about everything else. And daydream.

2. My family.

Sure, my brother can be annoying, my dad is absentminded, and my mum worries too much. But I don't know what I would do without them.

3. My friends.

My friends are the ones who shape my world. They help set an agenda, encourage me to go further, let me bitch to them about everything, engage my mind and entertain me. I'm lucky I get to live with two really fun people who take me on all sorts of adventures.

4. The internet.

I spend far too much time here. I check my email at least twice a day (in the morning when I get up and before bed) but if I am not busy I'll hit refresh on that page (an my livejournal page, and facebook) pretty darn frequently. I've met friends here, and learned here, and I really don't want to give this up.

5. My laptop.

This laptop hold all my secrets. All my stories. It connects me with the world and entertains me. And it's blue!

6. Books.

I am a reader. I have a pretty big collection of books (it's getting to the point that I need a new bookcase...) and add to them fairly frequently. I was a shy child, and books were my teachers and friends. And as I am a writer, books are my future as well.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My stories. I'm pretty dreamy sometimes. I can carry on a conversation while I am thinking about my stories, but not particularly successfully. Usually I end up saying something stupid- which sometimes gets me in trouble.

On a typical Friday night I am

Probably at home with my housemates. Maybe we're watching a DVD (we were working through Sea Change until someone left with all of their DVD's, so now we're watching Buffy) and I usually make dinner.

Sometimes though we go out, meet up with our friends maybe see a show. But show, I mean a performance of one of the local improvisation groups. They are, simply, hilarious.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to relationships.
