I am debonair, punctual, and mildly awkward..

My Self-Summary

I am a reasonably nice person, who has a considerable capacity to act like a smart ass. I am very close to my family and friends, most of whom I hold to high standards of awesomeness. I have a tendency to cover extreme shyness with snarky comments, which can be somewhat misguiding. I care deeply about intelligence in all forms (whether that means institutionally supported or through self-motivation). I like to laugh and to make people laugh; these two activities probably comprise about 85-95% of my day.

I have a lot of interests, plenty of which are often deemed somewhat contradictory in terms of social categorization, i.e. I love camping and hiking and skiing and pretty much anything outside, but I also like expensive shoes and fancy clothes and getting my nails done. I don't see these things as mutually exclusive. However, some people imply that if I really liked the outdoors I would Carhartts and hiking boots all the time, which hardly seems fair, because Carhartts aren't necessarily flattering.

I like dancing and drinking and other similar activities, but this doesn't translate to an increased desire to frequent bars and clubs (though there aren't really any clubs in Missoula anyway). I dislike people who are obnoxious and annoying drunks, but cute, funny ones are fully acceptable.

I love traveling and learning languages. I speak French, Spanish, and English (duh), and I am working on learning Swedish, Blackfoot, and hopefully German in the near future. I love all sorts of different places. I was born in Montana, but lived in North Carolina, Washington, and New Mexico before I was eighteen. I lived in Montreal, Quebec for my first two years of university, and then transferred to the University of Montana. And I am studying in Vancouver, BC next semester.

This is somewhat unrelated to the rest of this "self-summary," but I hate Crocs a lot. They are acceptable footwear if: a/you are a child, b/you are gardening, c/you are in a public shower, or d/you are at a gardening/home improvement store. I really don't appreciate them at all in other contexts, especially if they are in a particularly hideous color (example: orange).

What I’m doing with my life

I am currently a student, and will be for the next ten years or so. I'm almost finished with my bachelor degree and after that I plan to move to Bozeman to attend Montana State for my post-baccalaureate pre-medical program, essentially meaning I will take all the science and math classes I need for med school and then take the MCAT. After that it's off to medical school to enter a joint degree program with a medical degree and a masters in public health. I hope to be involved in international public health in my future.

I’m really good at

Tying knots (though there's a fairly limited number now, since I've forgotten quite a few since high school), reading maps, picking out outfits, copying accents, and memorizing song lyrics.

The first things people usually notice about me

I have a tendency to be somewhat snarky/sarcastic/mocking...but only to people I like.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite books/authors include: anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Sigrid Undset, Shalom Aleichem, Mendele Mocher Sforim, Independent People by Halldór Laxness, most of the Russian authors, and things along those lines.

In terms of movies there are lots of things I like, too many to write down here really, so suffice it to say that I think Grizzly Man is the most wonderful movie of all time. I also think that it is very, very funny. If you thought it was sad, we will almost definitely not get along. This is a VERY EFFECTIVE social litmus test and I use it all the time.

I love all kinds of music, maybe with the exception of Christian rock and most country. I usually prefer bands like: Empire of the Sun, MGMT, Passion Pit, Röyksopp, The Knife, etc. but I also really like stuff like Devendra Banhart, Megapuss, Vetiver, etc. I also love older, pop music. I sometimes have a weakness for crappy pop too.

In terms of food, I like most things and tend to be fairly adventurous. Indian and Mediterranean food are probably my top choices. And of course, growing up in New Mexico, green chile and New Mexican food are the bee's knees.

The six things I could never do without

Music (and by extension, my ipod), mountains, books, my little brother, awesome shoes, and traveling.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Traveling, fashion, books, and the future.

On a typical Friday night I am

On Fridays, my roommates usually attempt to coerce me into accompanying them out to the bars, but I try to resist. I'd say I go with them maybe two to three times a month, including both Fridays and Saturdays. I don't enjoy "meat market" type situations, crappy music, or obnoxious drinking. When we stay in, we tend to just chill out. This is highly enjoyable almost all of the time.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

is that I am terrified of the dark, and not in a funny sort of quirky way, but in a truly I am paralyzingly afraid of the dark kind of way.

You should message me if

you are awesome or if there's a good chance I'll think you're awesome (which basically means the same thing).
