Job-wise, I'm a lawyer. Don't worry, not the kind who has ads on benches a la Breaking Bad.

When unchained from my desk I get outdoors for sailing, cycling, triathlons, whatever sounds like fun. I have some random hobbies like abalone diving and putting birds on everyday objects.

Travel is fun, too. I have lived overseas and recently visited places like Ethiopia, Iceland and Fresno. Trying to figure out what's next--got a suggestion?

According to someone from northern Iceland, I am good at driving a manual transmission vehicle through snow and ice at night. I want that on my tombstone.

More prosaically, I'm not bad at: Navigating. Remembering arcane details. Oyster shucking. Getting by on little sleep. Knot tying. Cycling up hills. Making decisions. Persisting.

I'm either mellow or intense. Not many settings in between.

Very random. My reading tends to come in bursts when I get interested in a topic or author. Or on vacation when I have brain power to spare. Recently I read the Steve Jobs bio, a book about zombie apocalypse, and a history of the downfall of Haile Selassie.

I do regularly read newspapers. WSJ in print; NYT on blackberry; Economist on iPad.

My taste in music covers classical, rock, classic rock, even some bluegrass and country.

I will eat oysters any time. After that, other foodstuffs are filler. That's only a slight exaggeration.
