I am geeky, confident, and expressive.

My Self-Summary

My profile is profoundly outdated, I'm in the process of dragging it out of 2006. I hope you don't mind the dust!

I'm a polyamorous geek. I am also a nerd and a dork, and you get 1,000 bonus XP if you can distinguish the three. I'm married to calafia, and in three poly relationships at the moment - one maybe heading toward committed some day who knows... and the others harder to define. More may be forming, if I can slap myself out of my geekery long enough to get in touch. Livejournal users may recognize me as Deyo. I'm heavily into writing, gaming, and making bows. I also ride motorcycles, but I haven't owned one since an unfortunate incident in which I paid the rent. I'm an amateur massage therapist, and my friends seem abundantly willing to give me all the practice I need.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm working for Adobe in San Francisco, making sure our online store can produce the miracles we demand on a daily basis, and learning how to automate interactions that nobody has combined before. The working environment is surprisingly close-knit for a 7,000-strong company. I also started learning to play bass a couple of years ago, but the process has fallen victim to my microscopic attention span.

I’m really good at

I'm a tinkerer. If something doesn't work, I'll fiddle with it until it does. The only drawback to this method is that it's totally undocumentable. Nobody can reproduce my results, least of all me.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm excessively tall.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I read and enjoyed The Baroque Cycle, by Neal Stephenson. That was a rough read, but full of wonder at the natural order and human interaction. I enjoy mass-market physics, and I greatly enjoyed The Fabric of the Cosmos and The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. I've been downloading digital books and loading them up on my Treo for consumption on Bart and similar environments. I love Terry Pratchett, David Weber, Neal Stephenson, Peter F. Hamilton and Elizabeth Moon Most recently, I'm reading Jack McDevitt's science fiction.

I hold a tenuous middle ground on movies. I enjoyed The Matrix, but I didn't think it was ground-breaking or revolutionary. I certainly don't think it earned two sequels. The Empire Strikes Back is still my favorite, with The Incredibles nudging up into second place. Wall-E just jumped straight to third.

Lately I've become more immersed in music, listening to Great Big Sea, Electric Light Orchestra, and a Brazilian group called Uakti, performing Philip Glass' compositions. I got a new Treo recently, which allows me to listen to music while reading digital books... at least until it crashes on me.

I'm a big fan of dairy foods, especially cheese. I like a seriously aged gouda. If it isn't hobbling around on the porch saying, "Gerroff my lawn!" it's still too soft.

The six things I could never do without

1) Food. I eat six or seven small meals per day, and I try to enjoy each of them.

2) A quiet place to hide. I'm not antisocial, I'm just introverted. I have a Cafe Press store, "gotroot", with my new "Not Ready to Socialize" shirt. I own one myself. Total sales so far: One.

3) A mental diversion. A book, a movie, a video game, or just someone to make bad puns with.

4) Someplace to sit. Bad back. It's part of being an Old Fart.

5) Sleep. Lots of it.

6) A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock and a thingy that tells time.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The underlying structure of the cosmos. The more I look at the shapes and effects that occupy the quantum scale, the more convinced I am that we're all in a huge computer simulation in an eight-dimensional universe.

On a typical Friday night I am

Scrounging in my pockets for spare time, to see the people I care about. Anything from a brief visit, to dinner and a movie, to a passionate night together, so long as I know I'll be able to rest afterward. Yes, we're back to the Old Fart thing.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Everyone gets to ask me what I'm thinking exactly once. That's your freebie. Don't waste it.

Once you've used it, and I've replied, "I was thinking about how you'd isolate the Tau quarks into a macroscopic structure," you'll think you've wasted it. You haven't. That's really how the male brain works. You ask at a random time, you get a random thought.

You should message me if

You're willing to be honest with everyone in your life, and polyamory is familiar and comfortable to you. Or, if you just want to chat.
