When I was a kid, my grandfather would take me out fishing. I would hold the rod in my hands and feel a slight pull and tell him that I thought I had something. He'd come over, test the rod, readjust the line, and say, "It's nothing. Just the bottom." After dancing this jig a few times over several trips, he looked over at me and said, "You don't have to keep asking. When you really have something, you'll know." And I think he was right...although...

Looking back, I recall many trips out where we caught nothing, our luck was bad, we'd feel tugs and battle and just bring up some seaweed or sea robins or sand sharks-- nothing worth keeping-- and somehow those days too were important and worthwhile and satisfying.

Carl Rogers argues that the good life is a process. I seek fluidity: teaching, learning, working, playing, floating, swimming-- attempting to find some buoyancy, without becoming static. (Probably something similar to your own experience).

Years ago I created two lists: things I did well and things I did not do well. I carried those lists around for a few weeks, but I guess I lost them. Too bad. They would have helped me out here.
