I am forced into, entering adjectives, and am breaking the rule.

My Self-Summary

I'm a bit of a loner, but I have been trying to break that mold. Living in my head eternally will eventually drive me crazy, right? I'm kind of a workaholic these days, but I drag myself out to see a band play every now and then or to explore the city.

I have a lot of disparate and sometimes conflicting interests. I am not a perfectionist, but I must always be experimenting with things that are not well understood. I'm always fiddling with a few side projects but usually keep them to myself.

Believe it or not, I also have a sense of humor!

What I’m doing with my life

I've been working for a video game studio for the past year and a half now as a programmer. It's incredibly rewarding and is where I spend most of my days. I've also been writing/playing music off and on when the mood strikes me.

I’m really good at

Over-analyzing situations to the point of absurdity. Coming up with hilarious observational humor about almost everything. (Note: I'm really bad at explaining it out loud.)

The first things people usually notice about me

Ridiculous sitting posture or lack thereof, corduroy pants.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Pretty much anything by Chris Ware, a lot of classics. I read more non-fiction than fiction these days. I realize this section looks pathetically small.

Movies: Anything written/directed by: Charlie Kaufman, Darren Aronofsky, most Wes Anderson works, Ingmar Bergman, Terry Gilliam, a number of others.

Television: I don't have cable, but will watch shows either online or through Netflix. I just recently finished up The Wire and will follow the consensus that it might be the best TV show ever written. I also just finished the third season of Dexter. It started out with some promise, but the last few episodes were a bit disappointing. The only shows I watch regularly are the Daily Show/Colbert Report online.

Music: Les Savy Fav, Tortoise, Brainiac, Blonde Redhead, Charles Mingus, Jim O'Rourke, Explosions in the Sky, Squarepusher, Shellac, Drive Like Jehu, The Knife, Mono, Deerhoof, Burning Airlines, and many many more. I tend to focus on instrumentation over vocals/lyrics. Experimentation is key.

Food: I used to be really picky, but I'll try almost anything these days. Given a non-spicy vs. a spicy option, the latter will almost always win. I still have an irrational fear of tomatoes, and mayonnaise is the only thing I can think of that everyone seems to love but I find disgusting.

The six things I could never do without

Rational thought, ideas to challenge said rational thought, a good sense of humor, a bad sense of social norms, technology, those moments of absolute escapism from the man-made.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Let's just say it would be easier for me to answer what I don't spend a lot of time thinking about...but then I would be thinking about those things when answering the question, so it becomes a bit of a paradox, doesn't it?

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with friends, consuming media of some sort, or creating media of some sort.

You should message me if

You have a creative output or at least an appreciation of creative outputs. You are intelligent but don't need to flaunt it to prove yourself or to belittle others. You can handle conversations that switch back and forth from in-depth and serious to absolutely nonsensical.
