My self-summary
Basically I'm your average 30-year-old woman, with a few exceptions: I'm still in school, and likely will be for a long time (I'm aiming toward a doctoral degree in American history); I'm a voracious reader of (mostly) non-fiction; and I absolutely love to take long, wandering road trips around the US and our neighbor to the north. I'm an amateur photographer -- that does NOT mean I take photos of, um, amateurs, but I am learning the art of photography -- I especially enjoy taking pictures of those meandering road trips I previously mentioned. I am also an avid Boston Red Sox fan ... though I didn't grow up a "Masshole", my stepfather and his family (from Freetown) indoctrinated me at a very early age, and I've been hooked ever since.

I am intellectual, INTP, and curious
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in school (though I'm taking a brief hiatus this spring semester) at Harvard Extension School. My major is history, with a minor in English, and you bet I'm nerdy enough to enjoy (most) every nuance of academic life. I'm a native of Phoenix, Arizona, though I currently live in Dallas ... but not happily. I anticipate moving somewhere north (back to New England, or perhaps to somewhere like Minnesota) as soon as the opportunity presents itself -- I despise hot weather, and I'd really like to be where there are four seasons, not just "warm" then "hot".
I’m really good at
Writing, editing, and grammar! A few of my close, personal friends call me a "one-woman grammar police force".
The first things people usually notice about me
I suppose it depends on the person ... perhaps my hair, my chest, my eyes, my smile ... you tell me when you meet me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
As I've mentioned before, I read non-fiction like it's going out of style -- not that non-fiction would ever attain the goal of being in style, but I'm just saying ...

I read mostly historical non-fiction, but I also throw in classics, biographies, true crime, and travel books as well -- and recently, books on economics. I'm currently reading End This Depression Now! by economist (and NY Times columnist) Paul Krugman. It's a VERY interesting read, for those of you who are interested in the economic state we in America currently find ourselves in.

A few of my favourite books/sets: The Harry Potter series; The Da Vinci Code; books by Jane Austen (I AM female); The Chosen; The God Delusion; The Smithsonian Guides (to Historical/Natural America); the "Weird" travel books (Weird US; Weird New England; etc); embarrassingly enough, the Twilight series ... and many more I've forgotten in my oh-so-tired state.

Movies? Well, I've got a few favourites ... more than a few, really. Most recently I've fallen for "The King's Speech", but I also love The Pianist, The Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Gone With the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dazed & Confused, American Gangster, A Beautiful Mind, Dances With Wolves, Finding Neverland, and many, many others.

As far as music, I rock a very eclectic mix of tunes. I love big band music from the '40s, rock n' roll and rockabilly from the '50s (LOVE Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Patsy Cline ... I could go on and on), current hip hop/pop music (Karmin, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, All-American Rejects, NERD, etc), electronica (like Goldfrapp and Iio), and a smattering of tunes from other genres as well, including classical, hard rock, and (very, very little) country.
The six things I could never do without
1. Family
2. Friends
3. The Red Sox
4. Learning opportunities
5. Exploration of the world around me
6. Flushing toilets!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I'd like to be in a few years, and the best way to propel myself toward those goals ...

Oh, and how to keep the crazies from taking over (by crazies I mean ... (take a guess!)
On a typical Friday night I am
Most likely I'm at home. I don't know many people in Dallas, so I either stay in or go see a movie, attend Shakespeare in the Park or some other event, or whatever pleases me at the time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
*shrug* What do you want to know?
