My self-summary
Hello, my name is Katherine and I'm a Concord native :)
One of my biggest interests is astronomy and space, though I enjoy all different fields of science. I may not know a terrible lot about many fields, but science fascinates me :) I'm also somewhat interested in Japanese culture, but not as much as I used to be.

In the past I've also been interested in Greek and Roman mythology, but I've seemed to have fallen out of it a bit. This is definitely something I feel I should look into again, especially since there is so much of it that applies to astronomy with the myths behind constellations and such.

What I’m doing with my life
Currently getting adjusted to living on my own for the first time. I just recently moved out of my dad's house and in with one of my best friends.

My roommate recently introduced me to a site called Swap-bot.com. I've been doing a lot of "swaps" on there, most of them being postcard swaps :) I'm finding it a lot of fun and it's pushing me to step outside my comfort zone a little bit and trying new kinds of swaps (currently working on handmade birthday cards for a swap).

Also trying to find ways to get more active in the community.

I work full time at a childcare center as an assistant teacher and I work with children who range from 18 months to eight years. I tend to "float" to whichever of our classrooms needs me to cover for vacations, sick days, staff-to-child ratios, etc. but over the summer my primary position is to be a one-on-one aide for a child in the school-aged room's summer program.

[Update:] I am taking a driving course starting in January.

I’m really good at
Baking and decorating cupcakes, hand-stamping cards. I can be a bit of a perfectionist sometimes so when I really set my mind to something I don't like to settle on doing a mediocre job on it.

"Fixing" things with duct tape or yarn, balancing things, tangrams, crossword puzzles, staying up late and sleeping past noon on Saturdays, creating intricate and symmetrical designs with pattern blocks or Legos, Googling when I need to pretend I'm smart.

I guess you can also say I'm smarter than your average "Ursa" at knowing the names of stars and constellations, and I have a basic understanding of the mythological story behind many of them.

The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to be a bit loud and energetic. I have been in a losing battle with my volume since it was brought to my attention when I was maybe eleven. I try to turn it down, but my easily excitable nature causes it to go right back up again. I apologize for it in advance by chance we ever meet.

Over last summer I was getting a child off the bus from summer school and the bus driver commented how I always look so cheery whenever he sees me. The assistant on the bus agreed with him and they went on for a couple moments discussing my cheeriness as the assistant was getting the child off the bus :)

The best part about it was that I'd been having a horrible week.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A few of my favorite books are The Hot Zone, Dragon Sword and Wind Child, and Jason and The Golden Fleece. I absolutely LOVED The Odyssey, but had a very hard time getting into The Illiad. A few years ago I was on a pretty big Edgar Allen Poe kick, but haven't read much by him in a while since I finished most of the stories in the anthology that I have.

These days when I get a chance to do some free reading, it's usually one of my astronomy/NASA books honestly :/. My favorite of all is Skywatching by David H. Levy.
I also enjoy reading Manga, but haven't read much since
NeoTokyo closed. My favorite manga titles are Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers), Fruits Basket, and Yotsuba&!

Lately I've been particularly fond of Food Rules by Michael Pollan.

My favorite genre of movies are comedies. The Labyrinth, Hot Fuzz, Wall-E, Kiki's Delivery Service, Rat Race, Stardust, Emma, A Walk to Remember, and The Prestige. I'm a sucker for John Cusack.

Music is another thing that I feel I've lost touch with. I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore, but if I listen to anything it's usually either Savage Garden or Darren Hayes, though I also enjoy Arashi, The Goo Goo Dolls, Bon Jovi, Coldplay, SR-71, Jack's Mannequin, and Little Boots.

My favorite TV shows to watch are The Big Bang Theory, House MD, [Scrubs], Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and MythBusters. British comedies are so much fun to watch. Coupling is amazingly funny and I particularly like Vicar of Dibley and a really cheesy superhero comedy called My Hero, and some others that I just can't think of right now.

I also enjoy some anime. My favorite of all is Fullmetal Alchemist and I'm just now starting to get around to watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Food. I love food :) Almost any food is <3. I especially like cheese, seafood, sushi, and pasta. I love variety and experiencing different flavors. Whenever I order soup, I always order the most unique flavor that is offered or when I go to the grocery store I always pick up a different type of cheese to try. Lately, I have taken a liking to eggplant although I have yet to buy one and cook it myself.

The short list of things I don't like are the texture of couscous, the smell of lavender, and cinnamon gum.

The six things I could never do without
*My friends. Most importantly my two best friends: My roommate Ariel and my friend Ian maloran.
*Coffee (during the summer I'm leaning more towards iced chai when I can find it)
*Avocados
*The night sky
*Technology that allows me to stay connected to people (phone/internet).
*"Glossing polish" -I have horribly frizzy hair and my roommate turned me onto the stuff. It has changed my life, I swear.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
My family and friends, work, what I should be doing instead of thinking about things, the "Nemesis Theory", the etymology of words (most often if they are of Latin origin), laundry...it seems I always have laundry to do.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a bit obsessive compulsive about washing my hands. It dates back to an old episode of Bill Nye the Science Guy about germs that I watched as a kid. I am CONSTANTLY washing them at work which is partly because I work at a childcare center but also partly due to my own neuroses about spreading germs to other people. I really don't mind getting dirty though. Bring on the mud!

I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 22-28
  • Near me
  • For new friends, activity partners
You should message me if
I'm attracted to guys who are intelligent, fun to be around, and caring. And a little geekiness never hurts either ;) Similar interests are definitely a plus, but different interests can also be refreshing!

I'm looking for someone close to Concord or who doesn't mind that I don't drive. I've had trouble with people that I've tried dating who have eventually gotten discouraged with my lack of self-transportation. I can get around Concord fine on my own though.

If anything has piqued your interest, give me a shout. I tend to be a bit timid and unlikely to make the first move, but I'm very approachable and almost always open to talk to new people.
Hope to hear from you!
