I am philosophical, curious, and randomly smart.
My Self-Summary
I'm complex smart. Not simple smart. I ask lots of questions. I
think about things that I ought to know, and find out that I really
don't know. I'm philosophical, insightful, and thoughtful. If you
enjoy guys who become more attractive when they open their mouths
to speak, you may enjoy meeting me. I'm moderately eclectic --
though there are so many things to discover in this world, I feel
like I've got a long way to go. I have no attraction to pro sports.
I'm an engineer at heart, but not like any you've ever known.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm trying to figure out what's next in business, and generally
finding connections that make sense. Pretty focused on trying to
make a difference... at least in the realm in which I work. In the
last few years, many of my assumptions about what I will be doing
in the future have been challenged.
I also try to make a positive difference in the lives of people who
I care about. It's sometimes hard to know what that difference can
be. I think it's an article of faith -- that you sometimes don't
know how you've touched others.
I’m really good at
I'm pretty good at lots of things. I have tools. I know how to use
them. I can cook. I can read. I can fix computers (only for
friends.) I play guitar a little, and sing a little. I love kissing
(yea yea... so does everyone.) But I don't know if I'm "really"
good at too much. I'm probably my own worst critic, though...
because a lot of people think I'm really good at things I think I'm
only a bit better than average at. If you can kick my ass in chess,
I won't be bothered... I'll actually probably like it.
The first things people usually notice about me
Blue eyes. Imposing physical presence -- so I'm told. Not too
meaningful. How about my personality? There must be something to
notice there.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
(a)I used to read Ogden Nash poems to my son (he lives with his
mom), and that was pretty much a favorite thing. He's almost 16
now, and isn't so interested in poetry anymore. I tend towards
philosophical books... not all that much fiction. (b)I'm not a
total movie freak. I watch them once, and that's about it. I liked
the Shawshank Redemption, for its message of redemption. (c) Lots
'o music. Reggae, Bossa Nova, Ju Ju, Jazz, pop... I'm diverse as
hell with music. Recent concerts include Tommy Emmanuel, Jackson
Browne, John Prine, Matchbox 20. (d) I like new and different
experiences. Not the same old boring food. My favorite? How about
Orange juice. From a cart in Djem el Fnaa square in Marrakech.
(That sounds pretentious -- but it's an amazing experience being
there.) Or anything from a street vendor in Thailand (Anything
that's not still moving, that is.)
The six things I could never do without
Imagination. Music. Passion. Compassion. Google. Footrubs. True
intimacy. A couple of guitars. Family. Hope. Desire. Inspiration.
Challenge. Friends. Love.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
thinking. Metathinking. What next? What do I want to learn?
On a typical Friday night I am
Could be spending it with friends, or could be at home, working,
playing, reading, or really anything. Friday night is just another
night for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
This is the internet... and anything on the internet is not
private.
You should message me if
You don't believe in things just because someone told you they were
that way, many years ago. You have the courage to say something
truthful. The most exciting thing you can think of is to discover
someone who has the ability to take you in, and know you. You've
forgotten why you used to get jealous. You make your road as you
go. There are still things that make you blush, but out of
excitement, not embarrassment. You don't look at my pictures, and
think that what I look like is who I am.
