My self-summary Propose an edit
Yep, it’s a long profile. If you think it’s too long, then I guess
you’re not the girl for me. I am a man who communicates, and
writing is one form of communication. This is your chance
to get to know me. Friends read this profile, and certified it
“true and accurate”.
If you're somewhere between a young 50 and an old 36, think we have
enough in common after reading this, and can walk up three flights
of stairs without losing your breath) then I would love for you to
write. I promise you
that I'll answer.
If you're outside of the above stated-age range, I'll still write
back, but if you're looking to date, there will be a polite no
thanks in the message. If you wanna talk about green stuff, or a comment on something I
said in the forums, I'll gladly talk to anyone. I have no
expectations that I’ll meet someone from a non-pay site. No
expectations is a good place to start. :)
Keep in mind something that Thoreau said: As you simplify your life, the laws of
the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude,
poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.
After busting my tail building a really green house, I’m finally
enjoying the luxury of simplification, while retaining enough
complexities to keep life interesting. I'm intense, passionate, and
funny. I'm engaging and intuitive. I've been told
more than once that I make an impact. I'm loyal, open, and nearly
impossible to embarrass. Bob Chinn got me once, but that doesn’t
happen often.
So this house which has been all-consuming for me… it has geothermal heating and
cooling, radiant floors, renewable resource materials like
bamboo and wheat-straw, photovoltaic solar panels, blown-cellulose insulation,
rain gardens, built with non-carcinogenic low-VOC products, and is
quite spacious and tastefully decorated. The only thing that’s not
done yet is the theater, but that should be in finished
in another few weeks. My house was featured in a Chicago Tribune
article on green technology, and there are two other
features coming up now that it’s done.
I've formed a rather large circle of friends from theater,
business, hobbies, the web (and its predecessors), and Mensa. Through me, friends
often find new friends, and I've also introduced several couples
now married.
I've always found it best to be the same person behind a keyboard
as I am face-to-face, so the "me" you get to know here should be
the same person who shows up for a date.
I'm not hung up on looks, but I am on the truth. Your profile has
pictures that accurately represent how you describe yourself, and
if you're anything more than a real-world few extra pounds, we're
probably not going to have a compatible energy and activity level
for the long haul.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
As I said above, I've just finished this house, and now I'm going
to try to evangelize eco-technology and sustainable
design. That might be through press, politics, or some other method
yet undiscovered.
In my day job, I'm a technology consultant for small businesses.
Kind of an IT department for companies too small to have an IT
department.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Intuitive problem solving. Listening, talking, and relating to
animals (but I'm horribly allergic to cats). I'm good at catching a
pile of quarters placed on my forearm by snapping my arm to catch
them before they fall, and my dental hygienist tells me I'm an
excellent flosser!
I've also been told I'm really good at kissing, but I'm in no
position to judge.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
People tend to notice that I'm one of those people who really
understand that life can be too short, and I tend not to accumulate
regrets.
So the next time you get a kind word from a stranger that you
weren't expecting, it just might be me. :)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Gotta start with food, and that's anything with garlic in it. My
favorite restaurant is The Stinking Rose, in both San Francisco and
LA. Check them out at http://www.thestinkingrose.com.
Movies? I like anything from documentaries like "Who Killed The
Electric Car" and "Jesus Camp" to "The Natural" and on to movies
like "American Pie", "The Princess Bride", "The Running Man", and
Vin Diesel's XXX. Not only did I put a theater into my house, but I
have a screen in the nearby bathroom slaved to the projector, so
people never miss the movie if they need to go. I love
movies!
Books? Science/techno fiction in general, and a shining example of
that would be Neil Stephenson's "Snow Crash", as well as anything
Douglas Adams wrote before he died. I can't say I've read anything
he wrote after he died, but I'd probably like that too.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Excluding Maslow's hierarchy of needs:
I love Springtime... it's all about the life and the green.
Laughter and a sense of humor... I like the endorphines.
My dog... a good source of the aforementioned laughter and humor,
and exercise.
Friends... companions and comrades with whom I can share thoughts,
ideas, feelings, and food
A challenge of some kind... life is nothing without growth.
The sixth is more of a want than a need, but the biggest reason
we're here... a person who wants to mutually share all that we are
with each other.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
The world and what we're doing to it, and how to live here without
destroying it for future generations.
Sometimes I think about cheese, and how rotten milk can be so
gosh-darned yummy.
In the winter, I spend a fair amount of time thinking about
humidity, and how much I like it when it doesn't need to be
artificially produced.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Out at a movie, or dinner with friends, or at home with friends.
Which pretty much means there is no typical Friday night.
I don't really drink, and I'm into groups, not crowds, so you won't
usually find me in any place that's "packed".
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
You know, it's really lame when someone says they don't have any
secrets, or ask them about the most private thing they're willing
to admit here.
I tried coming up with something private to put here, but a few
people who saw this section said, "well, that's all guys!"
I replied, "But I said it! Most people would just think it!"
Apparently, that doesn't matter. It made me sound kinkier than I
am. So I'll say something just about me.
Though I may seem very independent, I get a big kick out of being
part of a team. Two people, working together, side-by-side, common
goal, instinctively knowing when to split apart (you get the
mustard and I'll get the bread) or when to stand together as a
common force (you be the one who wants the new car really bad, and
I'll be the one trying to get you away from the salesman to buy
from the competition).
Synergy is fantastic. :)
