My self-summary
I'm the eternal optimist, cheerful AND a morning person. I love to read just about anything. I love to travel just about anywhere, whether it's 5 star, couch surfing, or camping (I don't sleep on the ground as well as I used to, though). I sew, scuba dive, thrift shop, swim, sell stuff on Ebay, sing (badly, and mostly when I'm in the car), and generally have a good time.

I'm somewhat nerdy, a little goofy, not much of a talker (although -- I am one of the best listeners you will ever meet), don't watch much TV, don't understand sports, and can't ignore a person or animal in distress.
Guess what? I'm married!!!!!!!! YAY!

I am kind, gentle, smart, goofy, and cheerful
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working in cystic fibrosis research (have done research in cancer, psychiatry, and also worked with NIH studies). I have a degree in French (keep in mind I did that 30 years ago and I live in Oklahoma; I don't recall enough to speak, but I read it passably well), but went back to school for a nursing degree at age 40 (hard, but well worth the effort!). This is a funny thing, because I come from a family of nurses, and I was never, ever going to be a nurse (lesson learned: Never say never).

My youngest child left for college this fall. I've since moved into a smaller, older home much closer to work -- I love it -- work's now close enough to ride my bike. Lots of changes, but all good (and getting oh, so much better all the time)!

I like my work, but I live to travel. I took a trip to Ireland last July with my best friend, and am not quite sure where I'm going next...although there's a business trip to Boston in September and a trip to Orlando in October (and I get to speak at a convention!). Want to come with?
I’m really good at
I'm really, really good at solving problems, massage, listening, getting lost, finding a treasure in a heap of junk (hurray for eBay), and admitting when I'm wrong. And if you need some arcane bit of information? I can probably find it.

Random acts of kindness which will reach out and touch another OkC life and make their days blossom with unforeseen opportunity.
The first things people usually notice about me
Oh, the smile, definitely. An old friend once told me, "the room lights up when you come into it!" (just so you know, I don't really buy that, but if someone thought it once, well, maybe someone else will too)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a lot. I started reading adult books when I was 8 years old, which may be why I enjoy YA fiction so much now.

It's hard to pick favorites. Alice in Wonderland is probably the book I've read the most times, but others are Pride and Prejudice and Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately, I've read so much that authors who thrill me are getting hard to find (suggestions, anyone?).

Movies -- funny ones are my favorite; I have a very hard time watching tense or scary ones (I had to actually leave the theatre during Jurassic Park, which tells you that I have a very low tolerance). If you take me to a scary movie, you have to be aware that I will hold you very tight and probably have my face on your shoulder for most of it. My kids think this is the funniest thing ever, and my son makes it a point to NOT sit next to me anymore.

I like my own cooking, and can manage almost anything (although my friends still talk about the Eggplant Parmesan debacle...it was so bad I haven't had the heart to try it again), including liqueur filled chocolates (I currently have maraschino cherries soaking in brandy; bet you wish you were on my Christmas list!). I also like to eat out, and will eat pretty much anything unless it has beets, lima beans, or tripe in it.
The six things I could never do without
Six things I could never do without? People I love, books, outdoors, sunlight, sleep, chocolate. Oh, to fall asleep while reading on a sunny hillside under a blue summer sky, my head in my lover's lap...I suppose the chocolate would have to come later...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about all different sorts of things. And then sometimes I just live in the moment. It's a gift.
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday night is a great night for live music. You might find me at the Celtic jam session, or a swing dance party, or at VZD's, or The Red Cup listening to whatever group they managed to corral. I'm up for almost any adventure, though, including random road trips and time spent under the stars.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like to sleep with natural light coming in my window, especially if it has an eastern exposure (see, I wasn't lying about the morning person thing). And curling up for a nap in sunshine is a huge pleasure.

I keep a blog (it's currently lying fallow, but it says a lot about who I am). If I like you, I might tell you where to find it.
