Finding love in NYC. Now there's a challenge that no style can overcome. Who has time for dating? That's why meeting in person and settling the question of chemistry early is essential.

I am a smart, versatile, creative, social and very entertaining woman. I have been called a free spirit and am unconventional in many ways. Other adjectives that come to mind to describe myself are literate, curious, fun-loving, soulful, sensual, warm, open-minded, and flexible. I’m passionate about many things, particularly film, politics, photography, and great literature. And let's not forget love.

I like cooking for myself and others and prefer cooking for a man to picking up a check which I find to be a masculine gesture. I cook simple, healthy mostly Mediterranean style food. I drink like a European--wine with food primarily. . I entertain when I can and host salon-like gatherings in my home. from time to time. Am conversational and interesting (and interested); I know a little about a lot of things and a lot about a few things. Love people of all kinds. Find the subway fascinating. I never met a person I didn’t like. There’s always something I can find to like or relate to in a person.

Recovering defense attorney where I had the daily opportunity to practice the art of loving without judgment. (“How can you defend those people?") I then bartended for a while and loved throwing a party every night. It’s also where I mastered the art of accepting people for who they are and finding common ground. (“Is there ANYone Suzanne doesn’t like”?)

Have no children but have enjoyed being my nephew's "Auntie Mame" and have found it to be a powerful and rewarding relationship.

I am open-hearted and very left-liberal politically, sometimes unpredictably so. Sometimes I can be considered politically incorrect when I don't share the 'party line' on some issues.Very forgiving and compassionate. I have a good sense of humor and am a lot of fun. Many say I should do standup comedy. Others have said that my life is a sitcom and I should write it. Never bored or boring. I’d make a wonderful companion for the right man...

Now at a CUNY college where I teach law and political science. I have great passion for learning and a compulsive need to share. I have been accused of inspiring others to question everything and to think critically. Guilty. Teaching is a calling for me and it gives me extraordinary satisfaction, especially working with young college-age people from diverse backgrounds. I am also an administrator at the college where I teach.

I am creative and my creativity takes many forms. I love taking pictures.I'm more of a documentarian than artist although I have been told I have a very good eye. I love to photograph beautiful things and places and of course people--mostly great faces. I have also dedicated myself to photographing the vanishing landscape. I have taken notable b&w photos in places like Coney Island and Brighton Beach, photos of places and things that no longer exist. I also write and hope to put a lifetime of notes into a book or TV series. I love to dance. I also sing for fun. It opens the heart.

It's presumptuous to even attempt to answer this, and yet if I had to guess I would say that it's my smile, my hair, and my oftentimes exuberant personality.

Most of what I read these days is related to what I teach. I read mostly law, political science, history and current events as related to the various subjects.Usually reading several books at one time. For relief and relaxation I am currently reading and escaping with the work of Alexander McCall Smith. Just picked up "Mere Anarchy," Woody Allen essays. I love to laugh. I read the New York Times and the The New Yorker and articles on various progressive websites daily. Love Bill Moyers, the conscience of America, and Chris Hedges. No wonder I need to laugh:)

Books: Love great writing. Life is too short for less than exceptional writing. Appreciate great story-telling. Some favorites: Love in the Time of Cholera, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Anything by Henry Miller, (esp. Tropic of Capricorn, The Rosy Crucifixion, and essays--Wisdom of the Heart.) I.B.Singer, (mostly short stories but also 3 extraordinary novels, The Manor, The Estate, and The Family Moskat.) Catch-22, Dostoyevsky, Dickens.

Read a lot of non-fiction: mostly politics, history, law, comedy, philosophy, psychology, biography, health and metaphysics.
Some of the books and authors that have had a great effect on me: The Autobiography of Malcolm X, How to Talk Dirty and Influence People, Crime and Punishment, Tropic of Capricorn, Sexus, Nexus and Plexus. Anais Nin, novels and the diaries, of course. The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing. Catch-22. James Baldwin. Really loved reading Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil. Stunningly well-written journalist's account. Books at the top pf my list waiting to be read: Moby Dick, Ulysses, No Ordinary Time, Becoming Mae west.

Film: Film fanatic. Dialogue junkie with a photographer's eye. Prefer film to theatre although love old American-style musicals. Prefer films with 'heart', including some violent ones like Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, Godfather and Godfather 2. Some of my faves: The classics: Casablanca, On the Waterfront, Maltese Falcon, All About Eve, Some Like it Hot, Sunset Boulevard, The Letter, The Apartment, I'm No Angel, Dr. Strangelove, The Misfits. Lolita (Kubrick version.) A Raisin in the Sun.
Slighty more contemporary: Moonstruck, Out of Africa, High Fidelity, Bullets Over Broadway, Hannah and Her Sisters, Annie Hall, Radio Days, Wonder Boys, Lost in Translation, Station Agent, Scent of a Woman, Don Juan De Marco, Topsy-Turvy, Michael Clayton,

Documentaries: Sicko, Fog of War, Why We Fight, Ken Burns Baseball, Outfoxed, Client Number 9 to name a few.
And then there are foreign films: Amarcord, Babette's Feast, Scent of Green Papaya, Cinema Paradiso, Eat, Drink, Man, Woman, Il Postino, Persona, Exterminating Angel, My Life as a Dog, Rashomon, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, Marriage Italian Style, films of Almodovar, Mike Leigh, Bunuel, Vittorio De Sica, Ang Lee.

TV: I have a very complex and complicated relationship and history with TV which I prefer not to address at this time. I will say that The Sopranos' first year is, in my opinion, the best thing ever done on television. Also love and revere Northern Exposure. Appreciate re-runs of quality sit-coms that resonate with me: Larry Sanders Show, Cybil, Mad About You, The Nanny, Friends. Currently, the only current shows that I watch are Girls and Louie.

Music: All good music, from jazz to opera to Amy Winehouse, all except rap (I know, it's poetry) and heavy metal (just noise to me.) Peaked in the 70s with Soul, R&B, Rock, and then there's Hank Williams (Sr.) Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong (esp. Plays W.C. Handy & with Ella) inter alia. Never tire of Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder, esp. Songs in the Key of Life, Aretha Franklin (Never Loved A man...) and Miss Gladys Knight. Dylan (Blonde on Blonde, Blood On the Tracks.) Joni Mitchell, esp. Blue (one of my all-time top ten faves.), Paul Simon (Graceland.) Currently fixated on Nora Jones' first album. Like a sexy Valium.

Food: Eclectic, but if I had to choose one cuisine, it would be Italian. Healthy diet. Eat everything with concentration on vegetables and fruit. Make the best roast chicken since Little Joe's in North Beach. Eat organic when I can.

The one thing my Friday nights have in common is the theme of "winding down." Sometimes alone, sometimes with a friend, sometimes hosting a small salon gathering. I sometimes go to a museum.
