Hi!
I currently live on the south side of Chicago a few miles from downtown, love it here in Chicago. I recently started a new job and will be looking to move to the north side in the next couple of months though, and very much looking forward to it!

Thought this would be fun to do as a way of exploring myself and meeting new people and eventually meeting the right person.

I love playing softball, I am in a summer league with my university. I also fenced (foil, if you're interested) for a long time and recently returned to it after a few years retired, and I definitely have the competitive desire again so I'm going to keep it up.

I finished my Ph.D. program last summer and was continuing my research while I job hunted for my next step. I just accepted a new job as a Researcher Associate at a health care industry consulting firm. I start tomorrow (May 13)! It's an exciting time of transition and I'm really looking forward to my career going forward.

My hobbies remain very important to me, and I want to keep up with fencing and softball and visiting friends and living a balanced life.

Thinking analytically and logically and breaking down problems into little chunks. Listening to other people, and trying to help them break down their problems too.

Superficially my nice smile, and that can hold a good conversation about lots of topics, and I'm very nice!

For books, I'm a big fan of scifi/fantasy, some of my favorites are Asimov (Foundation series especially), Tolkien, Frank Herbert's Dune, Ender's Game. Also love some classics like Frankenstein, and (going way back) the Iliad and the Aeneid. Brilliant works!

For movies, my tastes are pretty simple, love scifi and fantasy, superhero movies, anything action and fun, and some comedies and even the occasionally silly romantic comedy. Some of my all time favorites are Bladerunner, Pitch Black, the original Star Wars trilogy, the Lord of the Rings.

For shows, my favorite recent-ish show was definitely Avatar: The Last Airbender, just wonderful! I also watch Community, Parks and Rec, Pawn Stars, Mythbusters, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, Eureka, Warehouse 13.

Music, I love classical music, opera and ballet of all sorts, especially Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi, too many to name! I also love 80s and classic rock, and have been listening to some grunge and heavy metal for a long time. Favorites on this front are Metallica, Nightwish, Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Soundgarden, things like that. I love seeing shows downtown at the CSO and Lyric opera!

For food I eat the usual American stuff, more interesting foods I enjoy are Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, sushi, etc. I don't eat a ton of international food but I usually enjoy anything I try.

Lately been thinking about the future, and where I'll be in five years

Usually just resting up from a busy week, but otherwise going out with friends to a movie or a dinner, pretty chill things!
