My self-summary
Born and raised in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (combo sorority girl/a cappella nerd who bleeds blue). I moved to Chicago after graduating, where I worked as a resume writer and a personal trainer/fitness manager. Moved here for grad school and work in June, so I'm still new...ish. My life philosophy of late has been: Just see what happens! For the most part, so far, so good.
What I’m doing with my life
Freelance Writer/Grad Student/Intern.
I’m really good at
I can sing a little. Also good at telling terrible jokes in front of full fitness classes. Finding the funny in/embracing awkward situations. Accepting that I am terrible at all rec league sports I've joined since moving here, but having a good time with them anyway.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes and the fact I can talk to just about anyone. Otherwise (OKCupid cliche alert!), you tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: That's like asking someone to name their one and only favorite song. Impossible. I love a good non-fiction essay collection, and I tend to read a lot of research/sociological texts. But I love classic and contemporary fiction lit as well...I was an English major, so honestly, if something is well-written, I will probably enjoy it. I also enjoy a challenge, which is why I'm still determined to finish Infinite Jest.

Shows: How I Met Your Mother, Nashville (cheesy, but it involves singing! I'm a sucker for anything musical), The Newsroom, whatever else I happen to catch online.

Music: Give me something with soul, and I'll be happy. R&B, soul, blues -- I may not be able to name every song from every legend, but I know what I enjoy. Not afraid to admit that I have a lot of love for Top 40. Open to new stuff always, and I really want to check out live music here in DC.

Food: Almost anything spicy. There are very few things I don't like, and I will try almost anything once.
The six things I could never do without
Black Coffee
Family
Music
Salsa (yes, the condiment)
A good book (or 50)
Something to write with
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I'll be in a year. How I got to where I am now. And what's on my to-do list (in a broad life sense and in an oh-right-I-need-to-do-laundry way).
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends, exploring DC, or hanging out at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Until the age of 13, I legitimately told people I was going to be a 'Diva' when I grew up. I've settled for being a karaoke star for now.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 25–35
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're smart and care about something. You know that complimenting a woman's looks alone will only get you so far. And if you have a nerdy side and good grammar, you earn bonus points with me. Above all, be a good person -- it might sound cheesy, but act like a man who would make your mom proud.

Also, I have a pretty great group of friends in DC already, but I am absolutely not opposed to making new friends via OKC. So if you think we'd hit it off as pals, drop me a line!
