My self-summary
My name is Chris. I am cismale, but indifferent to this, in that I wouldn't be upset if I woke up female tomorrow, and heterosexual, but I have experimented with men in the past and would probably do so again. That's awfully confusing, I suppose, so suffice it to say that I'm a straight guy for the moment, but that's not necessarily set in stone. (A lot of people seem to be getting the impression that I am trans. This is not currently the case, but could potentially change, I guess?)

I don't follow any religion and I am not vegetarian, nor vegan.

I'm a pretty shy and quiet guy, really. I'm much better at talking over the internet than I am face-to-face, at least until I'm comfortable around you. In social situations that involve large groups, I function much better with people I know and am comfortable with.

I much prefer socialising with one person at a time, or in small groups.

I'm quite interested in physics and linguistics, and, in fact, anything that involves taking something apart to see how it works. That includes the people around me, minus the "taking apart" bit. I like paying attention to small details and learning each person's idiosyncrasies. If that seems creepy and off-putting to you, then I'm afraid we probably won't get along. I also have a life goal of learning every language that there is. It's not realistic, but it's very motivating.
What I’m doing with my life
After finishing high school, I took a year out and went backpacking for three months in Europe with my girlfriend. It was an absolute blast, and I would recommend it (but take more money with you than we did).

I came back, quit my job, and moved to Sydney with the intention of studying, majoring with honours in physics, and moving to Switzerland to work on the LHC project. I've wanted to do that for as long as I can remember.

But I changed my mind, and I am now doing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney, with a focus on Linguistics and Chinese Studies. I'm also taking Senior French.

Long-term, I want to end up in a job that involves travelling, learning new things about the world and experiencing different cultures. I hope to work as either a translator/interpreter or a flight attendant on international routes, or anything that involves speaking different languages and meeting people from all around the world.

I'm also very much trying to improve my awareness of how to be a good person. I'm working hard, day by day, to educate myself on all the different sorts of people that make up this world, myself included.
I’m really good at
Learning different languages, playing the guitar, and playing table tennis. A lot of people also tell me I'm funny. I also notice things. It's what I do. I'm also very passionate about having sits. Having a sit is an excellent way to pass the time.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my beard, or at least it would have been until I dyed my hair green.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Possibly my two favourite book series are Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy series and Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

I don't know if I have a favourite movie, I like most of them. Notable high points are The Princess Bride, the Star Wars films, Watchmen (which I haven't read yet), the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic 'Verse.

As far as television goes, at the moment I am into Game of Thrones in a big way. I've been flirting with watching Hannibal, but I can never get motivated enough to watch it. I don't tend to watch much television, really. I've also just started watching Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I'm pretty excited about that.

My favourite bands and musical artists include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, and Uyama Hiroto, as well as Electric Six, Boards of Canada, and Daft Punk, also the Arctic Monkeys, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, also Grimes, Caro Emerald (I just rediscovered Aphex Twin, and ohhhh man)...basically, assume I like it - I'll tell you otherwise.
I love most kinds of food, but I have a particular soft spot at the moment for South-East Asian foods.

Podcasts aren't listed here, but I want to make a note that I am a fan of Welcome to Night Vale.
The six things I could never do without
My guitar, my glasses, my laptop, companionship, my legs, and new things to learn.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The abundance of usernames on this site that end in "-tron" and "-inator". Did I miss this trend?
This will seem like a HUGE cop-out, but everything. When I take a shower, I sometimes zone out and muse about the implications of special relativity, or quantum mechanics. Sometimes I'll be eating dinner, and then I'll start trying to figure out whether the problems we see today are a product of our societal structure, or inherent to humanity. I have, on at least one occasion, interrupted coitus because I had an idea and I didn't want to lose it.
I'm *THAT* guy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes working, sometimes out for a quiet drink, usually at home wishing I was out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
One time, I got blackout drunk. I don't remember any of this, but apparently I was in the shower, and screaming "I am the lonely Khaleesi of the plains!" So there's that. And I called one of my best friends "Pasito". I don't like getting that drunk.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–23
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating
You should message me if
At present, I'm in an open relationship with a girl, with whom I live. She's my only current partner, and I'm quite happy with the situation I am in, so I'm mostly here looking for friends, so you should message me if:

-You are looking for friends and think I would make a good one.

However, since it's an open relationship, anybody who is on board with that and is interested is quite free to let me know. I'm not actively looking for partners right now, but if it clicks, then it clicks, and I won't go out of my way to stop it (assuming everybody involved gives their okay). So, you can also message me if:

-You want to go on cute dates at dumb cafes and in small bars, or to the movies, and maybe see where it goes from there.
