My self-summary
I'm the liberal nutjob my dad worries about. I love the environment, cultural and racial diversity, science, equality; and those things affect my day-to-day life a lot, even though my job doesn't really involve politics or social action. But I maintain a balance too; I'm vocal and I think I set the example I want to see in the world comfortably enough from my home so I don't end up in a video clashing with police or WBC. I spend my money where I know it does well and I advocate among my friends and coworkers when it's appropriate. Sometimes when it's inappropriate, but you know, the world will soon irreversibly be a shithole. In those cases I see it more as a question of who fired the first shot...
Anyway, most of my free time is spent playing video games, keeping current with the world, hanging out with friends, and drinking everything. Wine, beer, coffee, tea, liquor--you put it in a glass and I'll romance it for a while. And now that it's getting warmer, I love getting out there to hug them trees. ;-) I like camping, hiking, generally having nature under my fingernails and having someone with whom I can share the experience.
What I’m doing with my life
I manage a wine and beer department in an independent retailer. It's strange and interesting, peddling what amounts to a drug and a luxury, but I like to think of it as being a curator of culture. I also drink $6 bottles of wine, so I'm clearly not as pretentious as that sounds.
I’m really good at
Smelling and tasting. It's pretty bizarre to think that I've been training my nose and tongue since I turned 21.
Oh, and despite my perhaps callous profile here, I'm really good at talking to people. I can usually get along with almost anyone, which makes me a good party date. *wink to my friend Greg*
The first things people usually notice about me
Seriously, you saw my pictures. You know what you noticed. In person though, I'm excitable and passionate. I talk loud and fast and strangely, which might define me more than my appearance upon first impression.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
a. The Silmarillion (and much other Tolkien), anything by Twain and other great satirists (Voltaire comes to mind), everything I've ever read by J.D. Salinger, most of Vonnegut's stuff, Pooh stories (not so much the poems) by A.A. Milne, religious texts and books on religions, and Harry Potter. (Totally kidding--I've never read them [not that there's anything wrong with reading them] but the movies blow so I'm doubtful of the books.)

b. Lots of mainstream-ish Indie stuff, and a few Hollywood gems. Dark comedy and documentary are among my favorite genres. Favorite directors/writers include the Coen brothers, Lars von Trier, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky. If it's irreverent or it features a dysfunctional family, I'll probably like it.

c. I'm not as into music as most people, but I dig rock/alternative and a few smatterings from other genres. The biggest names are The Beatles, Bob Dylan. I'm more into them and less into everything else every day.

d. I'm a vegetarian but I think I eat like a friggin king. I almost exclusively buy organic and/or local stuff and I'm decent in the kitchen. Thai, Indian, Mexican, Pizza. Yep.
The six things I could never do without
NOPE dumb question. I'll help you out:
I'm not the type who "looks" for anything. I'm a bit of a Daoist in that way; whatever comes and goes is probably a good thing. If nothing comes or goes, it's probably a good thing.
That stands to contrast with those who are SEEKING stuff. That tends to bother me when taken too far (which is very common). Goals are nice but desperation, loneliness, dwelling on the past is a real drain on my patience.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Mostly what Reddit brings to my doorstep. I like to get my brain going about the world around me, and Reddit and NPR are good for starting up the engines to look into things for myself.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working til the evening, then seeing what friends are up to. I like socializing in small settings more often than not, cheap and intimate. I love movies and games of all types, so a laptop is often nearby.
When all that pans out to me being by myself, the laptop is still nearby; however, it's usually just to provide background music or video to cook or do yoga. Songza is an awesome web site for multiplying the fun factor in an evening by myself.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
It's private! Jesus Christ, you want to know it?? I don't know you! I probably look crazy enough as it is...
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like guys
  • Ages 22–38
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You like learning. If you like a little spice in your life. We'll get along splendidly if you're happy and you like being wherever you are. I'm not always happy, and I often could use some change, but I often need people around me to help me live in the moment.
