I am nice, curious, and eccentric.
My Self-Summary
I'm interested in learning about just about everything and like to
try to help people. I've been moving around over the last nine
years, having lived in Maine for two, Pennsylvania for two, Kansas
for about two, and Cleveland for the last three. I'm a romantic and
a skeptic, both of which can sometimes get me into trouble. I used
to be very shy, of which I still have some remnants. I also have a
tendency to get into awkward situations, which I've become resigned
to and like to think is charming.
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated from college this past spring, and just recently got a
job that I'm happy and excited about, running a site that tutors
adults working towards their GEDs. I'm also auditing classes and
getting ready to apply to graduate schools.
I plan to travel to France for four months in mid-January, which
I'm very excited about. After that, I'll probably be back in town
for a couple of months, then off to grad school, wherever it
is.
This leaves me in an unusual situation, as I'm a person who has
typically been looking for longer term relationships. But I'm now
essentially moving in three and a half months, so barring anything
quite unforeseen, am not looking for anything to really extend
beyond January.
I’m really good at
Teaching/tutoring
General curiosity
Writing and math and related activities. Although I majored in
English, I won the math award from my high school many years ago,
based on a test, despite failing out of my math class due to
attendance, homework, etc... I have become somewhat more
responsible since then.
I can curl my tongue upside down in addition to the normal
way.
I'm good at listening and talking to my friends when they are going
through issues.
I think I'm good at philosophy but that could be largely because I
currently agree with my current ideas.
When I was in elementary school I was an idiot savant at running
while balancing a ping-pong ball on a paddle.
The first things people usually notice about me
What was the first thing you noticed about me? I'm not sure what
others first notice about me, although I suppose it would be nice
if their first thought was that I'm good looking. I think, based on
reactions that I have gotten from my friends, that I come across as
significantly less eccentric until people get to know me a little
better.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I like a lot of books. I love most of the classics. In terms of pop
literature I have tended towards the fantasy genre, although I have
been broadening what I'll read recently. The most recent book I
read not for school was "The Abstinence Teacher" which was great,
and I'm always interested in hearing any suggestions for great
books that you have.
Movies: hmm, so many. About a week ago I watched Mean Girls for the
first time, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which my friends had
never seen. They were definitely the best movies I had seen in a
while. I like most types of movies, whether stupid comedies, high
end classics, action, or indies, but typically don't go for horror
or tear-jerkers. Watching movies with friends is one of my favorite
activities.
Mostly classic rock but willing to try anything.
All asian cuisines. American food, French food, Italian food,
Mexican food, not Costa Rican food or traditional English food, and
Indian food (I recognize that India is in Asia but I don't think of
it as Asian).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. I think that I think obsessive-compulsively. However,
these include the future, the nature of the universe, which
decision is the best one, random logical tangents, and what other
people are thinking about.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends. Often watching a movie in one of our
apartments, but sometimes going out to a bar/club. I've fairly
recently started bowling, which I'm pretty bad at but think is fun.
This Friday night, it seems, I am filling out my Okcupid profile.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Ask and I'll tell you just about anything.
A little over four years ago I had a pretty bad breakdown.
I am looking into buying a video game to help teach me how to
dance.
You should message me if
you want to talk. I tend to go for smart, cute, goofy
intellectuals. However, Platonically, I like just about everyone
and would be happy to make new friends.
