I am quirky, intellectual, and hula-riffic.
My Self-Summary
Aloha kaua! (Hello to both of us!)
Well, I was born and raised on the Peninsula but I lived in Maine
and Germany for almost 6 years before hightailing it back to the
Promised Land. Maine taught me about the importance of Wearing
Layers and Never Leaving Home Without A Jacket; Berlin taught me to
enjoy the chaos of construction and that One Should Never Dye One's
Hair Red, Especially If One Is Over Forty.
I work for a, well, a fair-trade construction company run by people
with liberal arts degrees, which is really fun -- every time I get
to climb on somebody's roof, I can't believe I'm getting paid to do
this. I know this sounds cheesy, but the values my company embodies
are very important to me -- I can't wait until we actually DO get
to revolutionize the building industry.
I've been dancing hula for almost 5 years and am in the best halau
ever. I also play the 'uke and am learning Hawaiian, because YOU
KNOW, I REALLY needed more hobbies. My enthusiasm often exceeds my
judgment, but at least I come by it honestly.
What I’m doing with my life
Hula, hula, hula, beer, friends, work, hula, more hula, and
probably not sleeping enough.
I’m really good at
Knitting. I learned when I was 6 and have more yarn than I know
what to do with. (Isn't it awesome?) Unfortunately, this led to
some very unfortunate fashion choices when I was in high school,
like the red-and-black checkerboard sweater.
The first things people usually notice about me
My glasses, which have pink rhinestone dragonflies on them.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Mansfield Park, Much Ado About Nothing, Treasure Island,
Below the Root, and whatever else I happen to be obsessing about at
the moment. Currently reading Raising Kane by Pauline Kael.
Movies: Run Lola Run/Lola Rennt, The Edukators, Clueless, The Shop
Around the Corner, The Son of the Sheik (yes, I like my movie stars
HOT), Laura, Aguirre der Zorn Gottes
Music: Yes.
The six things I could never do without
My portable physical therapy studio (it's a long story. Support
health care reform, y'all) family, friends, hobbies, an intense
sense of humor, and homemade socks.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
My Hawaiian name is Ke'alohi. 'Alohi means something sparkly or
bright.
You should message me if
you're cool. Why not? Take a chance, take a chance on an unknown
kid!
