My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
For many years I was a professional journalist who wrote about crime. Before that, I used to be an archaeologist. I currently work for the federal government. Among the things that interest me most are science fiction and fantasy, role playing, tactical gaming, drama, comedy and world domination. You didn't notice that last statement. I enjoy talking about politics, even with people who disagree with me. I enjoy discussing religion even with people who are religious, as long as they are not too dogmatic. Most of my friends would say that I am a very physical person, I like to touch and be touched by people I like. I am married to a wonderful woman and we get along just fine. I am here looking for friends and pen pals.

I am brilliant, cuddly, and dangerous
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for FEMA. That is my day job. When I am not working, I read, watch DVDs, dance, play games of all sorts (board games, RPGs), fence, lift weights, listen to NPR and do what comes naturally only now I only do it with my wife.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, sword-work, target shooting, tactical analysis, kissing, sex, leg press (currently over half a ton), world domination (I really should stop mentioning that)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my eyes and my voice. People keep telling me that I should work in radio.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Some of my favorite authors are Tim Powers, Glenn Cook, Barbara Hambly, Robin Hobb, Walter Mosely, Peter S. Beagle, George R.R. Martin, J.R.R.Tolkien, Reginald Hill, S. Andrew Swan, Patricia Briggs, Lynn Flewelling.

Although I prefer Science Fiction and Fantasy, I read just about anything. On the other hand, I rarely read biographies.

In music, I prefer Early Music, folk, blues and soft rock. I do not like most jazz, hip hop, heavy metal or punk.

Some favorites: Anonymous 4, J.S. Bach, Hildegard von Bingen, Puccini, Purcell, Nancy Griffith, Howl'n Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Nick Drake, Tori Amos.

As to film, I am a major film fan and have seen hundreds of movies from the silents to modern experimental cinema. Some recent favorites: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Batman Begins, Kingdom of Heavan.

Not so recent: Alien, Aliens, Casablanca, Silverado, Men In Black, The Lord of the Rings (ok mostly the first movie) I was a big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy and I am thus horrified by the cinematic abortion that has passed for the subsequently released prequels.

On the small screen I loved Carnivale, Deadwood, Angel, Dead Like Me, Dr. Who, The Prisoner, Darling Buds of May, Sandbaggers, Firefly, Supernatural.

Most of the food that I cook is quite spicy. I particularly like garlic and peppers of various sorts. This no doubt explains my preference for Indian food and perhaps my attraction to Indian women. Unfortunately, my bride cannot take spicy foods. Alas.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My wife, RPGs, The hope that things can get better. The will to make things better. Books. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (excluding the second half of season seven), actually virtually anything created by Joss Whedon
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Politics. science. crime. solving the world's problems. Gull Girl. gaming. sex. World domination. npr
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It varies. I used to go out contra dancing every Friday and Saturday, but my activities can vary from dancing to role playing to staying at home and watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the Republican party.

You have a star ship and want to go voyaging across the galaxy. You want, or need, a friend. Are now or ever have been an alien spy.
