I'll read just about anything you put in front of me, but I
particularly like non-fiction and historical fiction, philosophy,
and academic writing. Anything that broadens my view of the world
around me. I studied environmental sciences and political science
in college, and still love learning about the way the natural world
works. I also like classic science-fiction, whimsical pulp-fiction,
and magical realism, like Murakami and palahniuk.
I don't really watch television, or own one, and I spent 2001
through 2010 without even a netflix subscription (I am really quite
awful at pop-trivia games). I really love podcasts... radiolab,
nightvale, mysterious universe, the moth, etc... Also, I just
discovered this: http://www.filmsforaction.org/walloffilms
One of my greatest passions is cooking. I try to prepare everything
from scratch, and love trying new recipes and alternative grains...
I have also been known to brew my own kombucha and belong to a
raw-milk co-op. I was a vegetarian for 7 years, but cook with
organic meat from time to time now.
Most of what I listen to right now is indie rock, folk, and psych
folk. Midlake, Fredrik, Inara George and the Bird and the Bee,
Elvis Perkins, Sun Kil Moon, Iron and Wine, Grizzly Bear, New
Pornographers, Fleet Foxes, Destroyer, Beirut, Rufus Wainwright,
Kishi Bashi, Andrew Bird, Beach House, the Shins, Modest Mouse,
Norah Jones, Jason Lytle and Grandaddy, Joanna Newsom, Lambchop,
Architecture in Helsinki, The Hidden Cameras, Noah and the Whale,
Sparklehorse, Immaculate Machine, Okkervile River, Neko
Life long favs include lots of New Wave, Elvis Costello, Bowie,
Cave, Cohen, Reed, and my one true musical love, David Byrne.
