I am a-one, a-two, a-one, two, three, and ♫♩♪♬♩.

My Self-Summary

I am professionally playful.

I'm a game designer for a Medium-Sized Videogame Company, and I've been getting more into improv lately.

I have a lot of creative hobbies that I rotate between: writing, photography, video, music, acting, etc. I love to encourage creativity in others.

I have a rather unusually specialized Masters Degree.

I have lived in Minneapolis, Chicago, Hakodate, Kyoto, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and now Brooklyn.

I have surrendered myself to the fact that I do not have any particular religious drive at this time, although I have a soft spot for Buddhism.

I love stories and storytelling. I like to think about narrative, and when I watch a film or a tv show, I try to guess the narrative and character arcs. Sometimes I picture the script in my head.

What I’m doing with my life

Demanding more.

I design games for a living. My job is to make sure the game is "fun." As such, I spend a lot of time thinking about fun, and seeking out as many different kinds of it as possible. Play is a big part of who I am and what I do.

Having found myself in a career where I spend hours sitting in a chair, I've gotten myself to become more physically active. I take yoga classes every week (work allowing), and generally do some sort of workout every day.

I live in a weird converted schoolhouse, and I think that's pretty neat.

I’m really good at

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

AUTHORS: Neil Gaiman, Haruki Murakami, Umberto Eco, Jorge Luis Borges, Ken Nordine; BOOKS: Light, House of Leaves, People of Paper, Cloud Atlas, The Sandman, The Invisibles, Sagas of the Icelanders, American Gods, Anansi Boys, The Elephant Vanishes

FILM: Brick; The Muppet Movie; Shaun of the Dead; Wave Twisters; Waking Life; The Brothers Bloom; MirrorMask; Pan's Labyrinth; The Big Sleep

MUSIC: I listen to lots of music. Lots and lots. Many genres. Many artists. However, desert island yada-yada: Boom Boom Satellites, Ani Difranco, Atmosphere, The Decemberists, Flying Lotus

FOOD: Thai, Indian, sushi, Italian, anything I feel like making (especially cheesecake)

The six things I could never do without

Something to write with. A book for writing in. A book for reading. Current generation videogame consoles. My turntables. My record collection.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Just everything. Some people tell me I think too much. I think those people don't think enough.

Nevertheless, you are encouraged to draw me out of my head.

On a typical Friday night I am

Exercising, singing, cooking and/or figuring out what I'm doing for the weekend.

If there's a roller derby going on, I'm probably at that. On the West Coast, I cheer for The Richmond Wrecking-Belles. On the East Coast, I cheer for the Manhattan Mayhem.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I jumped naked into a hole in a frozen lake at night in January three times so a girl would like me better. Sober.

Since people keep asking me: this was many years ago now, but yes, it worked.

You should message me if

It's so hard to know what to say to somebody when you contact them out of nowhere. I'm going to make it easy for you. If I sound interesting, scroll up to that "message" button and send me one word: "doorknob." You don't have to say anything else, just "doorknob." That's it. I'm serious.
