I moved to the Baltimore area from northern Michigan this past summer for graduate school. I'm a PhD student at UMBC working on an atmospheric physics degree... That sure is a mouthful. I'm a passionate and excitable person who pursues his interests and career doggedly.

If I had a choice, I'd be outside hiking right now. I'm from southern Michigan (just outside of Detroit) but I spent the last five years during my undergrad in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan basically surrounded by beautiful and endless wilderness. As a result there was plenty of backpacking, camping, and exploring to do. Now that I live in the city I hope to continue these hobbies, and would enjoy meeting anyone who knew about cool places to explore.

Pursuing a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics because clouds are cool, after that (5 years from now) I've got goals, but I don't really know what the future holds right now. Trying to enjoy the fact that grad school allows me to pretend I'm still not a grown up yet... even though I am.

I want to work at NASA or NOAA.

I really enjoy Music and I go to concerts in the Baltimore area whenever I get the time. My musical taste is extremely varied, I don't really listen to any particular genre but if you had to nail me to a cross for a particular genre it would probably be catagorized as _____ rock. However I've been getting really into hip-hop and rap over the past couple of years. I love discovering weird bands that completely defy genres (Like Movitz! which is a swing/hip-hop group from Sweden). I'm looking for someone who also has eclectic taste in music and enjoys exploring different things.

Reading fiction is another thing that I really enjoy. I've found that reading casually is a pretty good way to unwind from days which feel like they contain endless homework/research. I've got a few go to authors and too many favorite books to put into a list here... Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Yann Martel, Gabriel Marquez, and Mark Danielewski are some more modern authors I enjoy. I've seriously tapped into a lot of classics and I have a thing for books people probably should have read for their high school English classes (but probably didn't for whatever reason).

As far as Movies go, I like them. I'm really pumped that my parents don't use Netflix enough and have given me their account. I watch a little bit of everything... I really enjoy awkward comedies, so things like Seinfeld, Wes Anderson, and Woody Allen. My new favorite movie is Magnolia by PT Anderson, it's just pure genius. I go out of my way to watch foreign films. Movies with subtitles force you to actively watch what's happening on the screen, you can't fiddle around with other stuff while you watch a foreign film. The movie owns you for the moment, and I enjoy that kind of feeling. Most of my interests in movies come from my younger brothers high school obsession with watching an entire 'top 250 movies ever' list. I ended up watching a lot of movies with him and it was great.

TV: Don't watch much TV but I do have a netflix account and HBO so I've been enjoying Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, West Wing, Studio 60, Comedy Bang Bang, 30 Rock, and Human Giant.

Food is good.

I spend a lot of time thinking. Might sound deep, but really it isn't... I think about things like: How do insects survive winter? How many particles have to enter your nose to smell something? What do crows/ravens do for fun when they aren't learning how to snowboard? etc...

I'm really good at being fascinated by most things that people don't even think to be interested in.
