My self-summary
I'm an INTJ and a history professor. Yeah, I like nerdy stuff like video games, comic books, and D&D. I'm a big fan of coffee. Also of beer. I read a lot of books. I lived for three years in Korea and visited Japan several times and can speak a little of both languages. I can cook pretty well, sing a half-decent baritone, do laundry, and basic car maintenance.

I am very passionate and opinionated but I always try to shape my thoughts and feelings with facts. I love philosophy and literature, I often think about big questions and believe that the unexamined life is not worth living. I'm a deep thinker and I care very much about people and ideas.
What I’m doing with my life
I've got an M.A. in history. I'm currently getting an M.Ed. in Multicultural Education. History is a passion of mine and I love teaching. Currently I'm a graduate assistant in the Ed. department and I teach Graeco-Roman civilization for the history department at my university. I love my job. It doesn't pay much, but you can't put a price tag on doing what you love.
I’m really good at
Being opinionated and sarcastic and making people laugh. I'm often the glue that holds a group of friends together. I'm pretty good at learning new languages. I can learn new skills pretty quickly and am a good problem-solver. I can also play the drums.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my facial hair. It varies from season-to-season.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Lots of fiction and nonfiction. Fantasy and sci-fi are guilty pleasures. Favs include The Lord of the Rings, Blood Meridian, and stuff by Shakespeare, Haruki Murakami, Raymond Chandler, and Hemingway.

Movies: I love film noir and good science fiction. Old hardboiled detective films and novels are a favorite. I also really like Korean and Japanese cinema. As for TV, I am digging The Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire on HBO.

Music: Everything. Or almost. I like classic rock, alternative, hair metal, grunge, heavy metal, techno-industrial, hard rock. I also love classical and baroque music. Favorite bands/artists include Megadeth, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Gin Blossoms, Electric Light Orchestra, the Beatles, Nine Inch Nails, Dream Theater, Weezer, the Who, Pink Floyd, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Mozart, J.S. Bach, Gershwin, Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky.

Food: I have eaten (and enjoyed) Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, French, Russian, Greek, Italian, German, English, and Mexican. I also like coffee and I like to try different craft beers and microbrews.
The six things I could never do without
1) Music
2) A sense of humor
3) A laptop
4) Something to read
5) Coffee
6) A cellphone (I have a love-hate relationship with them)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Work. Plans for the future. How I'm going to cram 1,500 years of history into a 15-week course. Big philosophical questions like "what is good?" and "is justice really possible?"
On a typical Friday night I am
staying at home reading, out with friends, sampling craft brews at the Belgian Cafe in Philly, catching a movie, visiting with family... .
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Lady Gaga is my guilty pleasure.

You should message me if
You've a sense of humor, we have stuff in common, read books more than you watch TV (Twilight, the Help, and Eat, Pray, Love don't count), and you're interested in a genuinely intelligent and decent guy. If you can laugh--that's important.

I'm not rich, probably will never be. I don't look like Brad Pitt. I don't play games and don't care for people who do. I don't believe anyone deserves a "prince" or a $15,000 diamond ring. If that's what you want, click over to the next profile.
