My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I’m a genuinely kind, thoughtful guy with the soul and talent of a musician and writer, and a business career that utilizes my creative and marketing skills. I have an uncommon combination of wit, sensitivity, street smarts, and a dash of East Coast edge, smoothed out by long-time residence in California.

I enjoy reading, writing, a good swim or workout, hanging with my three godchildren, cinema, spending time with friends, eating out, sleeping in, meditating, walks, dancing to a good Salsa band, playing music, and international travel. I was in Rome in September and Rio (again) in January.

I'm seeking someone who's intelligent, kind, and very warm, with humor, vibrancy, a supportive nature, an interest in the arts -- especially music -- and an affinity for psychological/spiritual growth.

I should add that I'm in good shape, go to the gym regularly, swim, and enjoy an occasional hike or getaway to the coast. Beyond that, well -- let me put it this way (with apologies to Dylan):

You say you’re lookin’ for someone
To ski downhill and through the trees,
To bike the hills on Sunday morn
And paddle kayaks on the sea,
Someone for Marathons and more --
... but it ain’t me babe :-))

I sometimes wish it were me, but my beat is music and the other arts, movies, theater, cuisine, books, politics, philosophy, psychology, spirituality, international travel -- that kind of stuff.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Experiencing its rich tapestry. Okay, that sounds pretentious, doesn't it?! I work a little too much these days, but I’m generally pretty happy; the only missing piece is a long-term partner.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Playing music, writing, playing with children, long-term friendships with grownups, languages, listening, sharing affection, analyzing things and people (it comes with a writer's mind), telling good jokes and interesting stories, and discussing everything from world affairs to spiritual paths to pop culture to particle physics.

Music: playing and listening to most anything in the Western music tradition from Renaissance ("early music") to modern, jazz, classic rock, world music, salsa, Brazilian samba, pagode, forro, and sambareggae (bonus points if you’ve even heard of the last 3).

I really like poetry—immediate gratification, mind candy, and soul food rolled into one. Billy Collins, Mary Oliver, Yeats, Rumi, Sharon Olds, Antonio Machado, and many more. I like fiction too but haven’t gravitated to it lately. Looking forward to reading Keith Richards’ autobiography and Brian Greene’s latest book. Cosmology is insane.

My taste in movies is all over the place. Some faves are Fargo, Inglorious Basterds, Beasts of the Southern Wild, A Theory of Everything, American Hustle, and all of the Aliens movies.

TV: Yes, I own one and watch the good stuff: Boardwalk Empire, The Daily Show, The Wire, Mad Men, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Justified, Game of Thrones. Louis, True Detective (deliciously weird).

I listen to NPR a lot. BBC news, too.

Food-wise, I’m an omnivore skewing (or skewering?) toward the healthy end of the spectrum. I like sampling new restaurants, and enjoy about the same range of cuisines as most people, though very spicy-hot isn't for me.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Music, my 3 godchildren, great friends, humor, meditation, good food, chocolate

(Obviously, math didn't make the cut)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Whether I should work less and play more these days. I'm noticing that -- oh wait, I have to get back to a project that's due tomorrow.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Good chance I'm doing one of these three: playing for a samba dance class in SF in the early evening, having dinner with a friend or two, or working late and then hitting the gym (one reason I’m on this site).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
(1) I am not addicted to my cell phone. I realize that's odd these days. (2) I just don't "get" the appeal of golf; never have, probably never will. (3) I went to a live WWE show with my 2 godsons when they were in their early teens. I think I'll stop there.
