My self-summary
Hi, I'm Matt and I'm on OkCupid. I makes jokes when I'm nervous, I make worse jokes when I'm comfortable. If you're on this site, chances are that you're looking for some degree of significant other, so we already have that in common! I am...well, yeah, I am. I do what I can to enjoy life and all I have ever wanted is someone to share it with. I am monogamous, loyal, affectionate, funny, honest guy muddling through life as best I can. I have a tendency to wear my heart on my sleeve, I'd rather discuss things openly than hold anything back. I dislike "games", if you think you might like me, great, if not that's perfectly cool. I'm pretty open minded and I'd like to think I know what I want in a partner, but feel free to surprise me.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as a videographer and personal assistant at a local university. Goal wise I want to find a job that I don't hate and will provide a living wage (beyond that, the details are irrelevant). I would very much like to leave a positive mark on the world, so I feel rather ethically compelled NOT to do many things. I enjoy working with my hands, I enjoy working with words and can get a bit creative with both. Sometimes I get a bit off-track and go on tangents that don't necessarily have anything to do with the question at hand...
I’m really good at
"Good" is a relative term. I'm a bit of a "jack-of-all-trades" and dabble in a number of things. What I really enjoy doing is re-discovering and preserving human artifacts (in other words, I like going to thrift stores). I'm an exceptional listener and very empathetic.
The first things people usually notice about me
Many say my smile. I smile genuinely and often, without humor I could not get through the day. If you don't have a healthy (and potentially somewhat perverse) sense of humor, that will not be an easy thing to navigate.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't read as much as I should. My favorite books typically fall into the realms of science fiction and fantasy, but I do love history. My recent list includes: Lies My Teacher Told Me, Freakonomics, World War Z (2nd time through), and Culture Jam. I have an extensive movie collection, and my favorite depends on my mood (but it's rare that you can go wrong with "The Princess Bride", "Grumpy Old Men", "The Fifth Element", "The Ninth Gate", "Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness"...and the list goes on).

Television has lost a great deal of its' appeal over the years. Most of the shows I continue to watch have been off the air for some time (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, M*A*S*H, 3rd Rock from the Sun, MacGyver, Red Dwarf, Becker), but I do like Bones, Burn Notice (I like campy "B" movies, so anything with Bruce Campbell makes me happy), Dexter, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Game of Thrones, and The Big Bang Theory.

Musically speaking, I can stand just about anything apart from country and rap (unless its rap that's amusing or cynical by nature). I'm mostly a classic rock fan, but my taste is rather eclectic.

My food tastes are very simple. I know what I don't like (olives, liccorice, most fish, and a number of preparations of egg), but I will eat anything else. Food is always better with certain things added: bacon, cheese, chocolate, and/or curry.
The six things I could never do without
1. My friends. The roster may change (though not much), but they have been closer than family.
2. Sleep. Sleep is good, its how I reboot (THERE'S another show that I like). No matter how bad life gets, it all seems to dissipate by the time I wake up the next day.
3.Hope. Things can always get worse, but as long as I know there is an up-swing, I can survive.
4.Water.
5.Food.
6.Everything else is trivial. I can be happy with very little, THINGS don't make me happy, they're just fun to have. Basic physical sustenance and some good people, everything else just falls into place.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, my place in it, what I want in the long run (it's how I get there that is still uncertain), where/how I can meet someone who's my complement, the complexities of the human mind and experience, and how many quarters I can fit up my nose (6).
On a typical Friday night I am
Spending time with friends. I'm a bit of a gamer, so I occsionally spend an evening playing card games, board games, or roleplaying games. It would be ideal to be able to share these with a "special someone", but certainly not a requirement.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
All YOU have to do is have courage enough to ask. I have very few regrets in my life and am really not ashamed to admit anything that I have done. Not that I haven't done things I probably shouldn't have, but it's all a learning experience and sometimes you need to disrupt the monotony of the status quo).
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 20–37
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
You're single, try to be a good person (but know yourself well enough to admit you're not perfect), are honest, compassionate, think I might be a good prospect (I would say "match", but everyone has faults and I have a number I'm working on), and are looking for someone...or are open to the idea of finding someone to be with.
