My self-summary
I'm always reluctant to write these sorts of things because I feel that no matter what I put down whoever reads it will think it's been embellished. So... I'll just stick to the basics. My twenty year marriage ended about a while back and I'm starting to feel that pull towards the opposite sex again. I love movies, mostly foreign and indy and my musical tastes range from Baroque to the Dandy Warhols. I like cats more than dogs. I love baseball and don't really follow any other sport. As a young man I spent a year living in Switzerland and doing some traveling around Europe which included the USSR so I was able to view the other side of the Iron Curtain without the constant drumbeat of propaganda. My conclusion was that people are people no matter where they are born. I have a fairly warped sense of humor and can quote the Big Lebowski almost verbatim. I am a yellow dog democrat. My biggest claim to fame is that I once met the Three Stooges. I think The Wire is the greatest TV show ever made but that it's impossible to name the greatest book or movie. I still laugh like an idiot when I watch either Bugs Bunny, The Marx Brothers or Laurel & Hardy even when I've seen all the films a hundred times. When I was a kid I could look out of my bedroom window and see the top of the Empire State Building off in the distance. I've lived in DC for most of my life but still consider myself a New Yorker.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a restaurant lifer, forty years in the business and almost all of that as a chef. I gave up on kitchen work a couple of years ago when the hours finally got to be too much and took a job in sales. I still have two kids at home and between work and my life as a single father I don't have much of a social life but I am always up for a movie or ball game when time permits
I’m really good at
A veritable font of information on American History, cooking and other useless facts. I can make a homemade Bialy that would make your old Jewish Grandmother cry.
The first things people usually notice about me
My striking resemblance to Sean Connery or maybe it's Sean Canary. Oh hell, maybe his name is Jimmy, rest assured I look like somebody.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love foreign cinema and indy films much more than any of the blockbuster movies showing in theaters. I usually have to wait for netflix to release my type of films before I can see them. I love spicy ethnic foods like Ethiopian, Indian and Latin. My musical tastes run way off the radio dial. I love lesser known indy bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre and old psychedelic music from the 60's but I also love Baroque like Palestrina and Pachebel. I read lots of historical fiction and mysteries, Alan Furst is a favorite. I'm a big fan of the HBO series The Wire and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The six things I could never do without
My kids, good food, my DVR, baseball, women, olive oil and I'll also throw in a shout out for Dr Bronner's Magic Soap, that stuff rocks.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I'm a guy, what do you think?
On a typical Friday night I am
Home watching TV, I work on Saturday and get up early
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once voted for a republican
I’m looking for

You should message me if
You enjoy sitting in the stands at the ballpark on a summer afternoon or watching HBO on a Sunday night. If you like the Hudson River School, Vermeer or Martin guitars, think the Rolling Stones should have quit after Let It Bleed and Dylan should have hung it up with Blonde on Blonde
