I am awesome, witty, and nerdy.

My Self-Summary

I'm a sucker for a good game of scrabble and a Belgian beer. In my spare time I can usually be found taking in some tunes at concerts and bars, cooking a large quantity of food, or carousing about the town. I try to get to the museums and take advantage of things going on in the city as often as possible. That said, I don't need to go out all the time to be happy. Neither does my liver. I'm fluent in geek, but unfortunately okcupid.com has deigned that to be not a real language. My major turn offs are picky eaters, flakes, chauvinists and charlatans.

What I’m doing with my life

I work in book publishing in Manhattan. I like it quite a lot, but would like it better if more people bought books. Please buy books. I am also starting some side projects for when my industry collapses and/or gets taken over by robots. More on that in the future...

I’m really good at

Making chili! Also: word games, sassing people, walking briskly, trouble-shooting my co-workers computer issues, and finding fun that is free.

There are a lot of activities/skills I enjoy that I am not really good at. A friend's father once told me that you should be wary of anyone that excels at all of their hobbies.

The first things people usually notice about me

My glasses, my smile, and my mostly sensible shoes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I'll only list a few to avoid ridiculousness.

Books: The God of Small Things, My Name is Asher Lev, The Spirit Level, An American Childhood, Sabriel, Fox Fire, A Room of One's Own, A Good Man is Hard to Find, Brave New World; I'm also really into postcolonial literature, the Romantic poets, and food writing! And oh yeah some comic books and graphic novels. Aaaand select webcomics...

Movies: The Usual Suspects, Almost Famous, The Big Lebowski, Welcome to the Dollhouse, The Dark Crystal, Best in Show, Velvet Goldmine, Labyrinth, Dazed and Confused, Wet Hot American Summer

Music: Sleater-Kinney, Wilco, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Matson Jones, Cake, Beck, Simon and Garfunkel, Jimi Hendrix, The Pixies, Cat Power, The Stooges, Bikini Kill, The Clash, Of Montreal, Built to Spill, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Interpol

Food: I love to cook and eat! My favorite foods are generally hot and spicy. I also have a terrible sweet tooth. I love Mexican, Indian, Thai and Szechuan food. I love to try new food, especially if it's from a hole-in-the-wall or can be bought on the street.

The six things I could never do without

A good book, music, my friends/family, a kitchen, a good beer in my fridge, and google maps.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Let's be honest, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I will cook for dinner. I work a lot, my brain has to do SOMETHING.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out or at home (specificity is the spice of life!). I usually go out a few nights a week for various activities, and sometimes it doesn't coincide with Friday. I might be at the bar, I might be catching a friend's band/DJing, I might be having dinner with friends, I might be catching up on the latest episode of Dollhouse, I might also be sitting in my office in a state of ire because work is cutting into my weekend.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I refuse to get rid of a certain brand of outdoor sandals that came here with me from Colorado when I moved to New York. One of my roommates has indirectly asked me to move them out of the front hall because he doesn't want a girl he brings home from a bar to see them and think he's associated with them. I don't think my sandals are the reason they don't call. This hypothesis has been proven with hard data in a controlled environment.

You should message me if

-You're looking for a laid back lady to enjoy a nice brew with
-You want someone straighforward and honest
-You enjoy food, music, books and generally enjoying life in nyc
-You live in NYC or will be living there very soon. PATH train is acceptable, but no suburbs. I don't own a car and if I have to use more than my Metrocard to get there, I'm not interested.
