My self-summary
Hello! My interests are pretty intellectual – I love learning, reading, and discussing – but I also love hiking, yoga, and just walking or sitting outside. I love the sound of rain. This summer has been great for the sound of rain so far.

I am looking for a committed relationship – I am looking for love. I would also love to just make some new friends.
What I’m doing with my life
I am a teacher and a writer. I am a substitute teacher with Denver Public Schools, and will hopefully move up to a full-time English teaching position at a high school next year. I also work for Kaplan Test Prep teaching adults how to take the LSAT, GRE, and GMAT, and teaching high school students how to take the SAT and ACT. I write all kinds of different things.
I’m really good at
I'm good at thinking carefully. I'm good at teaching and discussing with enthusiasm. I try to listen to understand rather than to respond.
The first things people usually notice about me
No doubt they're impressed by my hair and my choice in frames.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, and Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood. I love radical cultural criticism, Derrick Jensen, for example.

My favorite films include The Prestige, The Fountain, and Airplane.

I like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Portlandia.

My favorite album is called Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull. I recently got to see Ian Anderson perform the full album, front to back, for the first time since 1972. I also like Led Zeppelin, Joe Bonamassa, Tool, and The Mars Volta. I like jazz: Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan.

I love most cuisines. I like sushi and enjoy cooking for myself.
The six things I could never do without

A notebook and a pencil

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about what makes good fiction, what makes a good life, and how to be a better teacher. I think about the United States culture and its problems.
