My self-summary
I moved here from East Tennessee a PhD program at UMD. College park kinda sucks but at least I've been able to survive without my car so far and D.C. is just a metro ride away, plus there's always zip car if a car absolutely necessary.
I love dogs and aminals in general, which is why I'm trying not to eat them. I've given up everything but birds and fish, and I don't really like seafood so I'm almost there.
I love to travel. I moved back from Germany to start the PhD program and lived in Australia during part of my undergrad. I'm a big fan of the outdoors, which is another reason I moved back from Germany. There's pretty much no wilderness left in that country.
I have a huge and pretty unique family that I'm proud of. I'm number 5 of 7 kids, and almost all of us are nerds. Both my parents have PhDs and almost all my older brothers and older sister either have or are getting a PhD.
What I’m doing with my life
As from above, I'm getting my PhD at UMD and working with an NGO on Chimpanzee conservation. I use satellite images of Earth to map out where they're likely to be found and quantify their habitat destruction through time. It's really interesting stuff and will hopefully be part of a conservation action plan in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
I’m really good at
Cooking, eating, drinking and being merry. I'm also a decent racquetball player and bike mechanic. Maintaining my bike is kind of like my form of meditation.
So far I've done a swell job of avoiding getting tangled up underneath a crazy Maryland driver's car.
The first things people usually notice about me
If we're talking right off the bat, I'd say my classic good looks and impeccable sense of style. If we're talking at the end of an evening, I'd say my sarcasm. But, how the hell should I know? I've never met myself without already knowing who I am.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Razor's Edge, Stephen Hawking's books, plenty of sci-fi but the Dark Tower series by Stephen King will always be my favorite set of fiction books.

I'm faithful to the Daily Show and Colbert Report. Ricky Gervais Show and Always Sunny are up there too.

Spirited Away, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Howl's Moving Castle.

I grew up playing guitar ergo I like music with good guitar. Anything from Pacio de Lucia and Al Di Meola to cheesy 80's hair-bands and metal. My current favorite band is Volbeat. I definitely recommend them. Recent additions to my favorites list and not so guitar intensive: Darwin Deez, Soogo Wonk, Ronald Jenkees.

I love a variety of foods. The Masters program I finished was international so I got to know a lot of people from all over the world through food, and even learned how to cook some of it. Spicy food is always good with me.
The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the hell the rest of my dissertation is going to be about. Getting a tattoo.
On a typical Friday night I am
It varies. Out for happy hour, at a movie or at home recuperating from an exhausting week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I really like tattoos but don't have one yet.
