I am quirky, calm, and smart.

My Self-Summary

I'm having a hard time writing this without overlapping with all the other questions they ask here :) Let's see...I'm originally from a small town in Pennsylvania, did my undergrad outside of Boston, and am now in Providence for graduate school. I study molecular biology so I guess I'm a total nerd at heart but I do have other interests. I like attempting to be artsy (the steel-yard has some great classes), travelling (Thailand most recently-but that was over a year ago), and of course every so often feel the need to go back to the more laid back hometown vibe (townie bars, swimming holes, and campfires in the woods). I know so many people say this but in reality I'm just as content to go out as stay in, as long as the company is right.

What I’m doing with my life

Basically I spend most of my time in lab doing research. The research itself has its ups and downs, but luckily I have great labmates and love my boss.

I’m really good at

I'm pretty good at rapping. Unfortunately, I don't know how to write lyrics. I'm also really good at being efficient and thinking on the fly (I blame the years and years of procrastination).

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm really tall.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: The last book I read that I really enjoyed was The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, which I was prompted to read by the fact that I also enjoyed One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I feel compelled to admit that I read this over two years ago- most of my reading as of late has been science articles (and Harry Potter). Although I do always enjoy some Bill Bryson.

Movies: I have a soft spot for musicals and action movies. I liked the new Star Trek (despite having never watched any Star Trek before). Sideways, Oh Brother Where Art Thou... this is really hard. I guess what I'll say is what I'd really like is someone willing to watch some of the "classics" with me (I only saw Back to the Future for the first time a month ago- lame I know).

Music: Dispatch, The Loud Family, The New Pornographers, Girl Talk, Regina Spektor, Ben Kweller, Shaggy, some pop stuff, really it's pretty random.

Food: I have a favorite dish of most types of cuisine, so while in general I'm a pretty picky eater, I can find something to eat almost anywhere. If I had to choose though, I'd probably say Thai food.

The six things I could never do without

Family
Friends
Tea (not picky-but I love the stuff)
Agenda (due to the whole 'lab obligations' + 'procrastination tendencies' thing)
Hm.. I'll have to come up with the other two later.

On a typical Friday night I am

Meeting up with my friends at happy hour and then coming up with some plans for the night. Usually dinner and either a movie, pool at a quieter bar, houseparty, or boardgames at my place (bonus points if you know what settlers is).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I bought a bass two years ago but still haven't learned how to play.
