I am competent, inquisitive, and polymath.

My Self-Summary

I'm busy changing and growing... gaining new life skills by the day, mainly thanks to an awesome coaching class that I'm taking. Current project: learning to be more tuned-in to other people's intentions and feelings.

I like to read, think, share ideas, cuddle, make music, hike, explore almost anything (that's legal).

My first career was software engineering, my second was dyslexia correction, my third was nanotechnology and molecular manufacturing. I took a sabbatical for a while, and I'm back on nanotech, and also doing evolution theory.

I'm interested in all aspects of science. I'm more or less atheist - I don't distinguish between spirituality and psychology. I believe strongly in improving myself. I'm trusting and trustworthy.

I just met someone...

What I’m doing with my life

I'm on sabbatical from almost five years with a non-profit that I co-founded to spread the word about nanotechnology-related issues. http://crnano.org ... OK, I'm done with the sabbatical.

I do sea kayaking in a fairly extreme way - getting rolled by waves on purpose for fun. I've been bruised a couple of times, and hit in the face by the kayak twice, but nothing more serious than that yet. I've written a piece called "The Erotic Potential of Sea Kayaking" - ask to see it - I'm told it's worth reading. I've also taken up kiteboarding.

I've recently moved to Menlo Park, CA, the fourth place I've lived in 2008 (all in the Bay Area). I like to travel.

I just signed up for a year-long class on executive coaching. I doubt that will become a career, but I'd like to learn more about how to "unstick" people and how to navigate social situations. .... A month and a half into the class, it's awesome! ...update: I can now see a career coaching non-profit leaders and politicians who want to improve the world.

I’m really good at

Intimate relationships. I'm self-aware, I love to cuddle, I'm open-minded, and I communicate well.

Learning new skills quickly; understanding science and asking good questions; being adventurous; mechanical and crafty things; spotting connections and inconsistencies between ideas.

The first things people usually notice about me

I passionately love learning about almost anything.

I've been told I have a great smile.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Wild Seed by Octavia Butler, Stars In My Pocket Like Grains of Sand by Samuel R. Delany, Lila: An Inquiry Into Morals by Robert Pirsig, the Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold; The Origin of Species (reading Darwin improves my brain).

Music: Classical (Bach!) and Enya and most filk <--(not a typo).

Movies: Frida - every character in it is sympathetic one way or another.

Food: Sweet.

The six things I could never do without

Google; physical touch; new things to learn; honesty; positive-sum thinking (better yet, unlimited-sum)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

nanotechnology, what makes people and social systems tick, science - especially evolution.

On a typical Friday night I am

On a typical Friday night, I'm on the computer.

But on a typical Thursday afternoon, I'm rolling a kayak.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Until recently, I had "Casual encounters / sex partners" on my "what I'm looking for" list. Then I had a few (not through OkC) and decided that I'd rather be in relationship.

You should message me if

You like talking about science (any field!), psychology, or other think-heavy topics.

You like hiking, kayaking, caving, or otherwise being outdoors, and you're looking for someone to do it with.
