If you require a man who can communicate, that's kind of who I am. I will occasionally make you think, and I'm a life long learner. If you're an intelligent lady, I can make you laugh .... usually.
I am a meat and potatoes guy, who is unpretentious to a fault. I wouldn't attend a church where I couldn't feel comfortable in jeans and athletic shoes. I'm a dog guy; not many better sources of unconditional love. I like cats on a case by case basis.
What you mean by: "Christianity and how serious you are about it," would define our possibilities. If we share a view of the importance of John 3:16, then it's a really good start. I've been a believer for 43 years, and in a non-denominational church most of that time. Mostly, I'm a sinner, saved by grace and finding that the older I get, that forgiveness is one of the highest necessities of life. We need to be able to forgive and be forgiven. God gives us grace, and we're supposed to spread it around.
I have a little different view of what being a soul mate means. I get that we have to like how each other looks. But having a long thriving relationship is more about effort than initial pitter pat. You must have the latter. But a willingness to understand that it's learning and dealing with our differences that makes "us" last. I believe that successful soul mates are more likely to result from intelligent effort than initial fireworks chemistry.
I'm told I look early 50's but I'm 62. After being separated for several years, I was finally divorced in 2012. It means I'm single again, for the first time since Jimmy Carter was president.
I'm athletic, but not exactly athletic looking. And I am sports guy at most levels. I've coached youth sports for years, officiated sports, written sports (still do part time), played tons of sports and sometimes I enjoy discussing the details. When friends have a rules question, they call me.
I don't smoke, hunt, dip or chew. I seldom drink nor ever done drugs. If motorcycle competence is a requirement, I'm likely not your guy. I have driven a pick up for 30 years in the business I own. I will be working until I'm 70, so if you have some sort of retirement planned soon, to go freely see the world, I'm likely not able to be a part of that, especially if you're older than I am.
My passions are diverse, with a conservative bent. I've been very involved in the past in grass roots politics, though not so much recently. However, I still keep up. I don't think it's a taboo subject. In fact, if you have substantial political differences, it might be wise to find that out early. If you are thrilled by Obama's re-election, then for us to get along, you'll have to be gorgeous. If you find any value in Bill Maher for anything more than a dart board, we'd have no chance.
I'm asked a lot what I want in a woman. You'll likely consider yourself an Evangelical. You likely have at least one of the auto setting stations on your car radio set to a Christian station. And when really good praise music is played, you enjoy it. You have pizzazz in your eyes. You probably smile easily. I'd love for you to have gorgeous eyes, that demonstrate a humble confidence. I have lived without credit card debt my entire adult life. You'd need to be able to live within your means.
But mostly, after spending most of the last seven years studying what makes for a good relationship or not, I have found four terrific resources on male - female relationships. The lady I seek will have to at least consider the stuff that those resources called valuable. She likely won't see it exactly the way I have. But she'll want to make the effort to interact about it, because it's important to me.
Learning from errors in life gives me great optimism about finding one last great life relationship. Finding the right lady is the quest. She'll be toughened by her life experience, real in loving, and living a life salted with biblical wisdom. And she will temper her natural inclination to superimpose a woman's view of life on her man. She'll expect her guy to be a guy, not a female thinker with male equipment. And while she genuinely seeks good to great communication, she'll understand that both of us have to make adjustments for that to work, not just her guy.
I don't require that you don't smoke or drink, but would consider it a blessing if it were true. If you are one of those women who actually enjoys watching football on tv, that would be cool. Even better maybe, you'd like to be that way, but because you don't understand the game, can't get into it. I've coached boys for a long time, so I can make it understandable and enjoyable if you seek that.
And if not, let's say you'd find value in three couples over for the guys to watch the Cowboys and their gals to have social time enjoying that their guys enjoy being together. And usually, we promise your kind of fun afterward. If that has appeal, then the potential is there for the kind of give and take compromise that makes a good relationship great.
