My self-summary
I am in graduate school for applied ecology, which I should be finishing this summer. I am an NYC native (Brooklyn), lived here almost my entire life, aside from a year long stint living on a tall-ship.

For the most part, I have lots of random interests. I know a little about a lot of things, and a fair amount about a few things. I like to think that makes me well rounded. As a testament to that, I probably have one of the oddest resumes I've ever seen. My last job was rescuing horseshoe crabs and counting seagull chicks on a tiny wetland restoration site (one of the cutest jobs ever)-- I had to take a boat there and I was usually the only person on the island. There I discovered that horseshoe crabs are kind of like puppies... when you touch them their little tails wag... definitely not as cuddly though.

If you're into the Myers-Briggs I'm apparently an ISTP. Also, I don't get the whole OKC "dating persona" test, I've officially tested as The Playstation, The Sonnet, The Nurse, and Half Cocked since I've been on (and off) here. I won't say which one is most fitting, you'll have to figure it out on your own...
What I’m doing with my life
Studying applied ecology, researching sampling methods, learning R, and hugging my cat.

I think better when I'm moving, and can sometimes be seen reading papers while pacing back and forth. I prefer doing physical jobs, especially ones where I get to move while still using my brain. I am starting a new (conservation related) job at the moment, which will hopefully allow for that.
I’m really good at
Character judgments, unintentionally saying inappropriate things, turning every topic into something morbid, picking up on subtleties yet being oblivious to really obvious things...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Stranger, the Nursery Crime series by Jasper Fforde (all of the books are fabulous), Shackleton's Forgotten Men, In the Heart of the Sea, The Story of the Eye, The Plague, In Harm's Way, The Prophet, The Death of Ivan Ilyich, old fairytales (Little Ida's Flowers is a favorite).

Movies: The Great Dictator, Modern Times, The Prestige, The History of the World, The Amityville Horror (original), Ticked off Trannies with Knives, Yellowbeard, The Princess Bride, Creepshow, Pan's Labyrinth, Goodfellas, True Romance, Apt Pupil, March of the Penguins.

Music: Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Bach, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Sugarcubes, Beirut, Gogol Bordello, Cat Stevens, Cult of the Psychic Fetus, The Amazing Royal Crowns, The Cramps, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Dead Can Dance, Die Antwoord, Lovage, The Kinks, Morcheeba, The Pogues, Patsy Cline, Ministry, Portishead, Reverend Horton Heat, Sinead O'Connor, Tiger Army, The Kings of Nuthin', Bob Dylan.

Food: Rice! I'm a rice fiend. I've been a vegetarian for 21 years-- I'm not preachy though.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Antarctica, animals in Antarctica, how to educate people to respect the environment and other life forms without being offensive or off putting, cuddly baby animals, and things I'll not mention here...
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately, seeing live music, doing homework, or just hanging out at a friend's place.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The "less romantic" rating I was given by this site is totally wrong.

I've never left the country.

I've mostly given up on this site, but I stick around for the entertainment, and because you never know...
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 27–38
  • Near me
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
If all of the following apply to you: You're honest, to the point that it gets you in trouble. You have a sense of humor, preferably a disturbing one. You can have conversations about things that aren't pop-culture related. You are a logical, thinking person, but aren't afraid of showing emotions. You're more than just book smart. You're looking for someone to actually spend some time with. You're a maniac.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: You want to interact in person, sooner or later; preferably sooner. I didn't come on here for pen pals.

Also a plus if you...
will endure a yoga class or two with me (actually haven't gone in a while. Changing that soon), would visit a cemetery for fun, would poke around in an abandoned asylum or hospital with me, or would like to go hiking, but wouldn't chop me up and scatter me in the woods (so perhaps, after we've met a few times...).
