I was born in Texas, but raised in
Portland.
I'm a lover of
science and tend to have a very
scientific take on things. It really just means that I understand
the fallibility of my own perceptions, and appreciate
accuracy!
I'm into a lot of things. Life is far too short for just one
hobby!
I feel a deep sense of satisfaction and wholesome joy at making
things myself, I really enjoy
DIY (furniture, home repairs, programs,
electronics, etc). I especially love
cooking. Doubly so when I'm baking for
friends and loved ones.
I like
computers. For a while I didn't think
I wanted my hobby to become my career, but now here I am, an
undergraduate majoring in
computer science. Recently I've
been considering
industrial design.
I practice
martial arts,
kung fu specifically.
I don't know why, but I get a kick out of
massage, so I've become a practiced
amateur masseur.
In my free time I enjoy reading
manga (and some other
comics, primarily European or
indie) and
books of all sorts (mostly
sci-fi/
science-fiction,
fantasy, or
non-fiction), playing
video games, listening
to
music (I have
pretty
eclectic
tastes). and
writing (particularly parenthetical
comments).
My favorite philosopher is
Epicurus, so I guess you'd call me a an
Epicurean.
I want to live my life such that someday, I will be described as a
philomath and a
philologist.
My days are occupied with
learning, at school or not.
I don't know what to say.
I try my best at everything I do. Sometimes it's enough, sometimes
it isn't, but I'm always ready to try again.
My beard is very red. My hair is long. I often wear a tangzhang
(Chinese jacket).
These are what I can think of off the top of my head:
Books:
Wizard of Earthsea,
Lord of the
Rings,
Discworld, Time Enough for Love,
Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and its Consequences.
Music:
The
Epoxies,
The
Beatles,
Shonen Knife,
The Knife,
Jethro Tull,
Loreena McKennitt,
Bush,
Mike Patton,
Peeping Tom,
the Pillows,
Yoko Kanno,
Blockhead.
Movies:
The
Dark Crystal,
Laputa: Castle in the
Sky,
Young
Master.
Food: Seriously, anything well made. But I do have a special place
in my heart for my home-baked treats and Thai food.
Let us leave aside the germane and profane requirements of what
many define as "living". My body is the meat that I am housed
in.
With no further ado, and in no particular order: my computer; my
books, comics, and other media; trustworthy friends; good food,
good drink, and good conversation.
Mostly? Talking with my scattered kismet online.
Sometimes I'll be practicing kung fu, reading voraciously, playing
video games, or cooking delicious food.
Maybe I'm insecure. I don't know how to deal with people. What they
expect or how to interact with them. I just try and take life in
with good humor.
At heart, I'm really just an old fashioned romantic.
You're looking for someone you can connect with, mentally, and you
think I might be that person (or even if you think I'm not that
person, and want to make sure).
You're interested in long discussions via instant message.
You'd like a good massage.
Sure, I'd love to form a romantic pair bond and have sexual
relations with one of these people. But a good friendship, and
thoughtful, inspiring conversation, are plenty in their own right.
