I'm a stay-at-home mamma to my daughter, age 8. I've taught elementary school music and private piano lessons.

I read trashy science-fiction/fantasy novels and chick-lit for the escape value. I adore Jane Austin, Margart Atwood, and Amy Tan. I read erotica, but only for very short periods of time.

We don't have broadcast television, although I watch BBC shows and films on Netflix. "Welcome to the Dollhouse" was a favorite, as was "The Squid and the Whale."

I love Chopin, Mozart and Brahms. Irish traditional music. Swing music.

I love Thai and Indian food, and fancy New American restaurants.

My favorite color is purple. On my hybrid car there are enormous purple flower decals. People point and stare regularly. Especially small girls.

I'm not that into things. I would hang on to my wedding ring, and the associated husband and daughter if I could only pick one.

I spend a lot of time thinking up fun things to do. I like to plan, and my calendar is generally full of nice stuff.

On a typical Friday night I am

My husband set up a drum track and rhythm guitar with his recording software. Then he set up the system so that it was giving my voice a drone on the fifth, and some other cool effects. I sounded like techno, dance club music. He improvised on the bass, and I sang some poetry about reincarnation, motherhood and springtime. Normally I'm not much of a vocal improviser, but somehow having the effects on my voice was liberating, like wearing a mask. I felt so free.
