My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have been on an interesting journey for this last half century and am looking forward to the next phase of my life. I dislike the idea of writing a summary about myself, but I do want you to have some understanding of who I am as a person. And I want to understand who you are as a person as well.

Above all, I am a kind, caring and compassionate woman with a strong desire to do my part to leave the world a better place for future generations. I enjoy being with people, but also relish quiet time alone. I can be relaxed and easy going, but also intense and hard working. I am independent, idealistic, curious, peace-loving, complex, contradictory, tenacious, down to earth and not materialistic. I have a strong spirit of adventure and a love for the outdoors. If you are familiar with Myers Briggs, I am pretty much a textbook INFJ and connect best with fellow intuitives.

I am interested in serious issues like climate change, alternative energy, the economy and health care reform. I am a voracious reader and enjoy both fiction and non-fiction. I watch very little TV and have no interest in professional sports, so I am pretty clueless on those topics.

Politically, I lean pretty far to the left although I am not affiliated with a political party. Ideologically, I am most closely aligned with the Green Party. I am not religious, but am interested in exploring and discussing spirituality. If I had to give myself a religious sort of label, I am comfortable with either secular humanist or ignostic.

I have three amazing kids, ages 22, 26 and 28.

I am an avid cyclist and rode my bike across the US in 2011 - Seattle to DC. I would like to do two more cross country cycling trips (Southern tier and TransAm Trail) and would love to ride in other parts of the world as well. I also enjoy hiking and kayaking. Although cycling is a big part of my life, it is not essential for it to be a big part of yours. If it is - great! I just need to be with someone who will accept that it is part of my life.

I am seeking a meaningful and lifelong relationship with someone who has similar interests and values. Above all, I am looking for someone who is open minded, caring, intelligent, emotionally healthy and willing to share their deepest thoughts and feelings. I am more interested in who you are than in what you do. I value a kind heart more than money or status.

BIG PLUS if you love dogs!

REALLY BIG PLUS if you can make me laugh!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
It is important to me to be doing something, in some way, to make the world a better place.

I have been in the real estate business since 1999. For many years, I thoroughly enjoyed helping people with the home purchase and sale process. Since the market crashed, I have found that most of the joy has gone out of the real estate business.

I am currently evaluating my career options and am considering obtaining a teaching credential.

I maintained a detailed blog (www.BigRide2011.com) on my cross country bike trip and am currently working on turning it into a book.

With the right partner, I would love to embark on a major adventure - wwoofing, a stint in the Peace Corps, cycling just about anywhere in the world...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Above all, I am kind, caring and compassionate. I am a great listener and a life long and true friend.

I am an avid reader - all time favorites include "Gone With the Wind", "The Grapes of Wrath", "1984" and "Into the Wild".

Currently reading/recently read books include a wide variety of non-fiction books about the economy, energy and the environment as I spend much time contemplating these types of topics:

"Collapse" by Jared Diamond
"Overshoot - The Ecological Basis of Revolutionary Change" by William R. Catton
"Fleeing Vesuvius - Overcoming the Risks of Environmental Collapse" - collection of essays by a number of prominent authors
"The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein
"The Breakdown of Nations" by Leopold Kohr
"The Crash Course" by Chris Martenson
"This Time is Different" by Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff
"The Long Descent" by John Michael Greer
"Aftershock - The Next Economy and America's Future" by Robert Reich

Recently read fiction selections - "The Help" and "The Hunger Games"

As far as music, I am a classic rock gal - a die hard Beatles fan and especially a John Lennon fan.

Food - not picky. I generally eat healthy foods. I am not vegetarian, but eat very little meat. I'm not a big fan of sushi...

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend much time thinking about the future of the world, particularly the interrelationship between the environment, the economy and energy. I am especially concerned about climate change and the challenges that human civilization will be facing in the coming decades as a result of it. I am trying to figure out how to play a greater role in becoming part of the solution to this crisis.
